Soft Decay
Soft Decay is a condition of the lungs and throat caused by prolonged exposure to duszt. It is diagnosed by the presence of a grey mucus buildup in the victim's mouth and throat, and an increased desire for water. The drinking of water, beyond what is normally required for the body is encouraged, as it can help clear the contamination.
Transmission & Vectors
Breathing Duszt can cause soft decay. Soft decay is not transmitable.
Symptoms
Chronic cough coupled with increasing difficulty to breathe. This continues until the body can expel the duszt from the lungs.
Treatment
Removing the victim from the area of The Blight as soon as possible. Because of the nature of the condition, even if the patient is cured magically, previous treatment and recovery from the disease do not convey immunity. The patient can be temporarily treated by spells of the Healing College to temporarily treat the loss of Energy and Bodily integrity.
Prognosis
This condition, if untreated, can lead to death. Those that die of soft decay often rise as undead.
Prevention
Covering the mouth and nose with a cloth can help prevent contraction, but it does not provide immunity.
The in-game effects of Soft Decay are as follows:
Exposure: full day of presence in The Blight.
Resistance: HT roll, modified by the level of Blight Corruption, and resistance to disease.
Schedule: Effects of the disease begin immediately.
Effects: Loss of 1 HP and 1 FP per day of affliction, HT roll as if initial resistance to avoid. HP and FP lost this way cannot be regained until the disease has run its course.
Treatment: Healing spells can help, as can increasing water intake by 2 gallons per day (confers a +1 to HT roll). Three consecutive successful saves cure the disease.
