Coiltech

Greed

The man lied still in the pod as he gazed up at the rotating fan above. His heart was gripped with both anticipation and fear as he set the helmet on his head and attached the magnetic plates to his chest. Then with a press of the button his eyes closed. It all blackened as conciousness near left him.   There was no pain, no emotion only a brief glimpse of what lied beyond, as he ventured through a storm of souls in motion. The realm of death he'd pass, but before he could grasp understanding of what lied beyond the light tore him back to his world.   The man flew up from the pod with a ragged breath, though no air would enter any lungs. No pain from the static shock that flesh should have embraced. No, he gazed down on skeletal hands formed of metal, not that of a meat and bone. With a clutch of his fist, a glow of a smile emerged from a constructed jaw, as he'd let out a scream of joy.

Discovery

From the legends of the burried civilization of Develus it is writ in stone that the great inventor of coiltech found the techonolgy by accident on his quest for immortality. He found that the wavelengths and energies which represented life and natural laws could not only be bent through patience, belief and intense magical training. Combined with technology it could be bent beyond that of mortal limits.   Unlike magitech though, this discovery didn't sate itself on technology that trancended a mortal mage's limits. No, it would go even deeper to focus on the very creation and destruction of energy. Something which proved impossible, though within it's attempt to shape and form souls the ancients learned that the soul can be presereved outside of the living body.

Utility

Only a few days after coiltech was discovered, most of civilization was already attempting to manefacture it en masse. The elites of their old society would spend near all their capital to trancend the mortal flesh into a state of sentient machina that would go on forever. As resources dwindled however, gold and wealth slowly fell in price, as blood and tears became all the more important.   Soon war raged over Develus in a struggle for the ultimate survival, which was also when the true horrors for an already sinful device were rapidly founded in blasphemy after blasphemy. Massive constructs of wars were fuled by souls of the dead. Armies programmed to fight the wars as the soldiers could do nothing but feel and pray, as their bodies acted on behalf of great machines that used their combat potential to precise perfection. Stored souls would be traded, infused into trinkets and amulets to gain the knowledge of past great minds such as inventors, generals and other intellectuals.

Access & Availability
With it's boundless wealth, the ancient civilization of Develus once had the ability to preserve and store the soul of each and every individual within their flourishing kingdoms. Nowadays it lies burried underneath the sands, closely guarded by immortalized legions of necro and magitech constructs that try to keep scavengers away from their old ruins, to ensure their folly breathes it's final whispers.
Complexity
Coiltech could be considered complex beyond mortal comprehention. Few understand how it works, even less how to ensure it does work and even fewer yet have the skills to properly apply it the fields. Nowadays it is considered a forgotten art which Daemonic hordes and the Reapers fight tooth and nail to scavenge from Develus dunes. Knowing well that this ancient secret alone could turn the tide of wars.
