Origin Myth

As told by the Architect Council, the origin story of the Oaran people is as follows:   At the beginning of time, there was the Oa and the Naayu. The Oa, concentrated in what is now known as the Lake of Origins, was the supreme force of order. The Naayu, one of chaos. The Oa lived in this state of isolation for a long time. Eventually, it grew tired. It saw potential to build something from the world's chaos. So it created the Naayir.   The Naayir, meaning 'from chaos', were children of the Oa borne from the lake itself. They could shift their form at will, and their strong connection to the Oa allowed them to manipulate the chaos in even more dramatic ways. Thus, they were the original architects of Ylis.   These original architects built a shell around the Naayu, building upwards and outwards. They designed the planet, lovingly crafting each rocky outcropping, precipitously floating mountain range, rain-drenched jungle, and calm ocean. And the world was made.   But something wasn't quite right. The world was too predictable, and needed balance, just as the inner world had had balance between the Oa and the Naayu. It needed something to give it life. So the Naayir created the Oarans, and they inherited the world.

Variations & Mutation

Though the official version of the myth does not specify, stating that the truth can never be known, there is some variation across regions regarding the creation of the races. In K'ele communities, it is commonly taught that K'ele were the original masterpiece of the  Naayir, and have the closest connection to the Oa. The other races then evolved from the K'ele, losing their wings and feathers as they became unnecessary for certain (commonly seen as inferior) lifestyles. In other areas, particularly among Yllir, it is taught that all races were created at the same time, with equal care, and equal connection to the Oa.
