Missionaria Erotica

Structure

Vylora's most favored servants in large part detach themselves from ranks and hierarchy when they join the order. There is no commandment that they relinquish positions in their parent organization, nor a proscription against assigning or promoting order members to such positions, but it is a tradition with the weight of years that any who join are simply referred to as priest or priestess, or perhaps brother or sister. And further that they not seek or exercise authority within the larger temple. Should the situation arise where one must exercise authority, they would likely be seen as equivalent in standing to a well respected temple priest who does not preside over a physical temple of their own, though allowances would likely be made for seniority and/or reputation.

Culture

The Missionaria Erotica promote kindness, understanding, and love in all their forms among each other and towards the general populace. Many of their detractors, and even some of their supporters, view them as essentially whores who don't need to be paid apart from being encouraged to make a donation to the nearest temple of Vylora. Vylora is a goddess of sex and desire who lives up to those titles, and her chosen do seek to emulate that in worship of her, but both the goddess and the followers are also much more. Vylora is also the goddess of familial love and deep friendship. The members of the order are also accomplished healers and both spiritual and moral advisors. There are certainly members who specialize in one field or another, but every one is required to be skilled in each field.

Public Agenda

Every member of the Missionaria Erotica is charged with spreading the wisdom and love of Vylora far and wide through expressing their own love in whatever way is appropriate or needed by their audience.

History

Vylora was not a goddess held in favor by the Empire of Issithoss when it held sway over much of the world, and so much of her formal worship was, if not outright banned, heavily discriminated against. Though the Missionaria would officially be called up by the resurgent Temple after the collapse of that empire with the aim of proselytizing to those outside the nascent temple's reach, they are essentially the spiritual successors to one of the more successful underground groups of Vylora's worshippers during the Dark Age.
