Journal of Sir Onfroi the Planeskimmer

Purpose

There is some debate over whether Sir Onfroi intended his journal to be used as the instruction manual it has since become, or if it was simply a way for him to process his lonely journey through the  chronicling it. The Knight was not a journal keeper by habit, so there was clearly a specific purpose for the document, and it was obviously important to him judging by the lengths he was willing to go in writing and preserving it (the "vellum" the original copy was written on was made by repeated removing and curing patches of his own skin then healing over the wound with his dwindling potion supply). Unfortunately, his writing methods eventually caught up to him, he did not survive the journey he recorded on its pages, and the nature and location of his death have as yet precluded resurrection or contact, so no outside context can be introduced and only the actual text of the journal can stand to justify itself.

Document Structure

Clauses

Sir Onfroi did a remarkable job keeping time while lost in the effectively time agnostic space of the near Ethereal Plane. As a career soldier, he had long since counted the steps he would take in an ordinary day's march, and had precise knowledge of how long it would take him to perform the various campsite tasks that were necessary. The only potential issue with his timekeeping were the hours he spent asleep, but he was able to solve that issue by constructing a device to both track this blank time and purify his water of any potential unknown pathogens: he would boil his entire water supply every "night" with markings on the vessel that received the condensing water. Thanks to his strict adherence to these methods and his detailed account of them, the one entry per day theory can in fact be trusted, and even the written dates at the beginning of each.

Publication Status

The original journal is not available to the public, both because it is considered historically and perhaps mystically significant and due to its grisly nature, but the contents have made their way to many mediums including ink and paper, and are now fairly common, with the tome considered mandatory reading for prospective planeskimmers and highly esteemed by explorers of all stripes.

Historical Details

Legacy

The various tips and tricks discovered by Sir Onfroi for survival and quick movement through the near Ethereal were so revolutionary that they've spawned an entirely new magical discipline and launched many careers for people who ae now referring to themselves by his posthumous epithet.
