Alda Fuin

Geography

Alda Fuin appears very different depending on the distance from which it is viewed. To anyone close to or within it, it appears to be a somehow even darker and thicker forest within the forest of the Dark Arbor permanently shrouded in fog even on the few days its surrounding forest is clear. This impression would hold as you got further away for anyone under the canopy of the Dark Arbor, but for those above it or beyond its borders the truth can occasionally be glimpsed through the fog: Alda Fuin is a single enormous willow tree, climbing five kilometers into Khthon's sky. The edge of the "forest" as seen from nearby are in truth the many branchlets descending from its crown high above. There exists a substantial clearing beyond the branchlets and before the true trunk of the tree is reached, which is often the area of all the Dark Arbor least obscured by fog.

Ecosystem

Everything that can be said of the outlying Dark Arbor can essentially be dialed up to eleven when crossing over into Alda Fuin. It has en enormously diverse and abundant ecology of animal life, though most of the plant life is outcompeted by the great tree itself. The significant tendency towards magical creatures and phenomena also increases drastically when crossing beneath its crown. This makes it one of the most sought after, and also the most dangerous, locations in the world for all manner of alchemical and magical material gathering.

Ecosystem Cycles

The dual shelter of the Dark Arbor and Alda Fuin means that there are no discernible differences between the seasons in the area, it is a land of cool temperate fog nearly every day of the year. Some rain does manage to reach the ground, so a careful observation could determine the difference between the rainy season and the dry, as could focusing on the ecosystem in the crown high above rather than the more accessible ground, but very few spend enough time in the area to pay any heed.
