Übervater
Qualifications
There is but one qualification to become the Übervater: to be the best monster slayer in Redfletch (and likely the world). He can only rise to the title after a majority of the organization's members, or a supermajority of its leaders, watches him best all other contenders in a contest of archery or a competition to hunt the most, or most dangerous, monsters.
Requirements
Nothing is required to participate in either type of choosing competition, one needn't even be a member of Redfletch before taking part. Issuing the challenge has no specific hurdle to jump either, apart from the bravery to look one of the most skilled and driven men in the world in his eye and challenge him to the thing upon which he prides himself most.
Appointment
From the moment a competition to determine the Übervater begins there is raucous celebration, and the intensity only increases when someone wins. At some point the new leader and those who now report directly to him will slip away from the party for a secret meeting, but it is nearly universally believed that they simply abscond to a smaller and more expensive party.
Duties
Technically, all disputes between members should be arbitrated by the Übervater, but in practice this is delegated to those lower on the chain of command in all but the most egregious of situations. Further, any member may seek the advice or judgement of their foremost member but once again in the majority of cases one of the members between the two in standing will handle it instead. Though he has no formal authority to treat with others on behalf of Redfletch, the title carries so much respect that there are many examples of exactly that happening, and none of such a deal being refused or denied by the organization at large.
Benefits
An Übervater gains nothing but respect and adoration for taking his title, but those who are drawn to do so rarely desire anything more.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The only way to be removed as Übervater is to die or to lose the position to a challenger.

Equates to
Many would compare the Übervater to a chieftain or even a king. It's an understandable mistake to make when faced with the respect he is accorded by his people, but he claims no fealty and collects no taxes. That he may be replaced at any time by any of his followers instead of handing off the reins to a chosen successor also causes a significant difference in authority and temperament.
