The Nellian

The Nellian are humanoid species that are generally 6'8 to 8'2 ft tall and weigh 250 to 350 lbs. They have a flat, elongated nose that sits high up on their face. Instead of lips, the Nellian have a muzzle that connects to the nose. An average Nellian has long arms that reach their knees, and a tail that measures half of their height. Unlike most humanoids, Nellians have two-jointed legs and claw-like feet with four toes. Nellians are extremely dense in weight, having slim bodies but extreme strength. In each finger resides a retractable claw which is extremely hooked. These hooked claws are essential to hunting, as they're used to tear into meat. The Nellian have an extremely sensitive hearing and vision. Their eyes have more color cones than most humanoid species which allow them to see more spectrum's. Nellians are native to NH-C39, an arctic class planet. The only season on NH-C39 is winter and is constantly covered in snow and ice. The Nellians have heavy fur to protect them from the cold. They form dens in naturally formed caves on the surface, as the planet is quite porous for the first few layers. Nellians are carnivores and apex predators of their home planet, NH-C39. They hunt in packs, using their black-tipped tails to communicate to each other and to lure prey. Their hooked claws allow them to attach themselves to their prey and prevent it from getting away. These claws also come in handy when eating, as the most meat will have frozen from the time from the kill to the time when it becomes consumed. They use the claws to tear the meat apart. Most herbivorous prey will flock to the pack's territory, as the two groups live in a truce. The Nellians provide safe breeding grounds and protection from other clans as long as the herbivores provide a steady source of offspring to hunt. Nellians will hunt far from their den and then drag their kill back to their pack. The long exposure in the snow will freeze the meat, although this provides no problem for the Nellians. Each pack will have a very distinguished territory. Nearby rocks and trees will be scented by pack members, and the clan symbol will be painted around for other species that cannot. Trespassing on another packs territory often results in the death of the interloper.   All this information is available in the following article.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Nellians reproduce like most Northern Earth mammals.

Ecology and Habitats

Nellians are native to NH-C39, an arctic class planet. The only season on NH-C39 is winter and is constantly covered in snow and ice. The Nellians have heavy fur to protect them from the cold. They form dens in naturally formed caves on the surface, as the planet is quite porous for the first few layers.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Nellians are carnivores and apex predators of their home planet, NH-C39. They hunt in packs, using their black-tipped tails to communicate to each other and to lure prey. Their hooked claws allow them to attach themselves to their prey and prevent it from getting away. These claws also come in handy when eating, as the most meat will have frozen from the time from the kill to the time when it becomes consumed. They use the claws to tear the meat apart. Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

There is no difference in the naming of males and females. More often than not, packs are clan based. Each clan carries an ancient name that gets slowly changed with each new generation. Baasa, for example is the combination of Ba, the clan name, and Asa, the name given to a local flower on NH-C39.

Major Organizations

Each pack will have a very distinguished territory. Nearby rocks and trees will be scented by pack members, and the clan symbol will be painted around for other species. Trespassing on another packs territory often results in the death of the interloper.

Beauty Ideals

The whiter the coat, the more desirable. The black tip is not to be longer than 4 inches, if it is it is considered a birth defect. Long whiskers are also desired.

Gender Ideals

Hunting responsibilities are evenly distributed between male and female Nellians, as are all the other responsibilities.

Courtship Ideals

Courtiers will present their person of affection a kill that they find themselves proud of. If the gift is accepted, the second stage of courting begins. During the second stage of courting, the courtier will begin the travel to the Jaskari'i mountains where the gura flower grows. The flower is deep within the mountain and only grows in underground grottoes. If they return with the flower and the second stage is accepted, thus begins the third stage. The last stage is where the courtier searches the approval of their clan leader. If the clan leader blesses them, they may marry.

Relationship Ideals

The ideal Nellian relationship is where they are both healthy and have many affections for each other.

Average Technological Level

The Nellian have access to most standard technology distributed within the Sectors, but chose not to use it as the cold interferes with it. Clan elders will use technology, as they often frequent the gura caves. Despite their distaste for most technology, the Nellian have created an extremely effective healing balm that draws from the gura flower. As a last draw to defend themselves, Nellian warriors will use guns.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

There is only one language the Nellian speak, but it differs from the South and North Clans.

Common Etiquette Rules

When greeting, they will open by saying their clan name, following with a statement of their purpose for the conversation. All Elders will be greeted with a bow and show of submission, although the clan leader is excluded from this rule.

Common Dress Code

Nellians do not wear much clothing for they have thick fur covering their entire body. When not hunting, Nellians may occasionally wear head scarfs and shawls to prevent them from getting dirty. Elders will drape themselves in heavy cloaks and scarfs to represent their position. Elders will also carry their own staff, representing their time as clan leader.
