The Song of Discord

Evil is a choice, a decision people make for a variety of reasons, it could be to gain power or wealth, it could be driven by ones passions and emotions, or it could be a reason unique to the individual. It is not something you are born to, it cannot be something you are forced into, it is always a choice.
Those who choose the path of evil will feel compelled to walk into the Shadowlands, to abandon those they love or care for, to abandon their possessions. They will feel compelled to kneel before the Dark Lord and swear service to his cause. Rare is the creature who can resist this pull, for the being must be ancient and have existed before the coming of the Dark One and the introduction of evil to the folk of Khinarzi, written in the blood of countless innocents and bound by the deaths of the Dawn Pantheon.
One who has succumbed to the evil within is said to have heard the song of discord and been claimed by its melody. Now this does not mean someone can find redemption, for evil is a choice and one can choose to change an make new choices, but the road to redemption is long and dangerous for escaping the Shadowlands is difficult and deadly. But should they survive they may be eventually welcomed back into the Five Kingdoms. One born into the evil of the Shadowlands is more easily welcomed than someone who has chosen evil, for to have chosen the darker path means they could easily choose to do so again and it does not necessarily mean they returned for the purest of reasons.
