The Continents of Khasrana
Society on Khasrana has settled on the three great continents of the world: Gaodrun, Midisa, and Khasrana. The fact that the world shares a name with one of its continents is a translation error that took place after the continent's population was nearly wiped out by a forgotten calamity. Midisan and Gaodrunen relief efforts to resettle the continent were an overwhelming success, but the language barriers among the three societies led to a misunderstanding that renamed the continent.
Khasrana
The continent of Khasrana is mild in climate, existing in a temperate biome. Robust forests line the western coast, giving way to rolling plains in the center of the continent. A swamp extends from the southern coast to meet the central plains, and the northern part of the continent is a desolate waste. A spine of mountains marks the eastern border of the plains, and on the other side of the mountains exists a vibrant and unexplored jungle. Khasrana's inhabitants are all descended from the Midisan and Gaodrunen travelers that resettled the continent a thousand years ago, blending those two cultures with what was left of Perim into a uniquely Khasranan culture. Gaodrunen influence is most readily observed in the Marsh Kings' Reign that rules the southern swamps and the city of Meadowrun that towers over the plain, while Midisa dominates the western forest of the Windwood. The only uniquely and originally Khasranan culture is that of the goblins who reside in the Painted Foothills east of Meadowrun. They were unaffected by whatever wiped out early Khasranan culture, and have recently risen to prominence on the global stage as an independent culture of their own. Midisa
Off the western coast of Khasrana lies the continent of Midisa. It is a “continent” in a loose sense, as it is composed of a handful of large islands that seem to have been one landmass in prehistoric times. Midisan contact with Khasrana happens primarily along the western coast, in trade ports near the Windwood. It is possible that Khasrana’s first elves came from Midisa, though archaeological evidence exists to support the opposite theory as well. It is indisputable, though, that Khasrana’s aven are Midisan in origin, making their first landing in the Marsh Kings’ Reign in recent history. The ties between Khasrana and Midisa run deep, as there exists record of Midisan diplomats assisting Khasranan societies after an unspecified time of turmoil. These diplomats were instrumental in stabilizing the lawless and cutthroat political climate of the period’s Marsh Kings. This intervention seems to have inspired the figure of Cosmia the Ascendant, who would later be fully syncretized as one of the Twelve. Gaodrun
The continent of Gaodrun, meanwhile, is found to the east of Khasrana. Like Midisa, Gaodrun seems to be centuries or millennia ahead of Khasrana in terms of societal development, and both were heavily involved in the development of Khasranan culture as it is known today. Most Gaodrunen influence can be found in the Marsh Kings’ Reign and in Meadowrun, and it is no coincidence that these happen to be the two largest human communities on the continent. Outside of humans, Gaodrun has very little in the way of sentient life, so it is natural that this is where Gaodrunen visitors would gravitate toward.
In fact, it has been suggested that the founding of the Marsh Kings’ Reign was due to Gaodrunen influence. The tale of Forgall the Domitor’s gift is well known, but some scholars assert that Forgall was not a divine being, but a Gaodrunen emissary. Like Cosmia, he was elevated to a mythic figure as generations passed, and the inclusion of Forgall among the Twelve is proof enough of this.
