War of the Sisters

Military action

11LC
39LC

Between 11 LC and 39 LC, the conflict between Galythiel and Morsyana grew into a war that involved the Kingdom of Labar, the dwarves of The Porcupine, and virtually all human territories.

In response to Morsyana's coup and her use of dark magic in Silimanis, Galythiel found support among many of the wood elves of Qosid to march towards Prydissyrr and lay siege on the capital in 11 LC. This siege failed and Galythiel retreated to western Dathyll, from where she engaged in guerilla warfare against Morsyana.   King Jalyxx supported her side and blocked the Silimani harbor of Nossed, thereby disrupting trade. This move involved the dwarves from the Porcupine, who saw one of their most important gateways into the Northern Arm blocked. Their initial response was to ship towards The Mouth and Hervik instead (even though this was a more dangerous and therefore costly journey) and negotiate with the gnomes to remove the blockade. As Morsyana tightened her grip on Silimanis, however, it became clear to the Mountain King that even without the blockade trade could not return to normal. In 13 LC, the clans of the Porcupine declared they would loan funds to Galythiel to hire them as mercenaries for support in reclaiming the Laeryllian throne.   In 16 LC, dwarven troops landed in Eblon, in the lands east of Silimanis, from where they opened a defensive front in their west and moved an offensive front into Laedor Thilis (King's Swamp) to push against Dathyll from the east. This attack was complemented by Galythiel's efforts in western Dathyll and Labarean campaigns against Morsyana-occupied Silimanis.   Yet Morsyana was not without allies herself. She had access to food and riches from the territories she occupied and kept much of the elven elites on her side, while hiring Loxo mercenaries to attack dwarven fortifications. Through dark rites of magic, Morsyana also bound the orcs of Lorr Tahak to raid Laedor Thilis. While the dwarves could hold their stand in the swamplands, they were effectively halted in their campaign and for four years they were solely occupied with holding of Loxo and orcs.   Galythiel's hope was on the Labarean military, which until that time had been a peculiar mix of militias owned by the traditional Estates, with a structure and training built around defense. Humans proved themselves to be much more adaptive and King Jalyxx set up a programme in which humans from the coastal regions trained and reorganized the Labarean military. In 29 LC, this new Labarean military entered the Arkos Plains, west of Dathyll, and merged with Galythiel's troops to secure the area.   From there, the attack on Silimanis commenced. In 32 LC, the allied troops marched into Silimanis, which was to become one of the most intense battlegrounds of the War of the Sisters. As the fights continued, Morsyana's treasure dried up and she could no longer afford Loxo mercenaries to hold back the dwarves, who finally pushed into Dathyll and liberated the capital.   Morsyana herself fled with a contingent of loyalists, chased into the Thracyll Mountains by dwarven troops. In 39 LC, the War of the Sisters was over and Queen Galythiel took command of the kingdom of Laeryll.
