How the Narshal Came to Deen-Narsha

After some years passed, there came sailers of the Eldest, the first to sail the seas after the Shanomle departed, and they came towards Tarth-Dansha. As they came within sight, the Temquite prepared for a great storm, for they hated all that their master hated, and cheif among that list were the Eldest. But before they could begin, three great lights like falling stars came down from the heavens and struck the Isle at three points, derectly on the ridge which devided the Isle. When the Temquite saw them, fear fell upon them, and they fled from that place. But their King lead them in an asought against the Eldest, on whoes account they deemed this to fear upon them. The Eldest ships were strong, but not strong enough to withstand the might of the King of the Temquite and they began to founder. Then a clan of the Dallen who were fishing in the nearby coral reef, saw the stars and the ships of the Eldest, and they came to the aid of the Eldest against the Temquite. They fought long, and many parished of both the Eldest and the Dallen, but they fended of the storms and drove the Temquite back. When the Temquite were forced back almost to the isle, fear took them again and they fled. During the battle the Dallen were seperated from the fleet of the Eldest, and the stormy winds drove the Eldest south west and they landed in the wastes of Garthnen. But the Dallen, with the remnent of the men from the command ship of the Eldest, fought in towards shore. As the Temquite fled they sent the last of their strength against the Dallen. When it came, the fleet of the Whale Towers which made it up was driven back, and could not come close to the shore, so they followed after the Eldest fleet and they landed to the east of the southern shore. But the small boat of the Eldest and the tallest Whale Tower, that of the Prince of the Dallen, were driven in to shore, and there were thrust into the rocks on that part of the isle. the whale got smashed up and went down with the whole tower and many Merfolk. The little boat of the Eldest became timber and was lost at sea. But on the debrie three men still clung, and they were none other than the princes of the Eldest and the Dallen. Sarfien and Maltsar were the names of the Eldest, and Nerrocen was the name of the Dallen. They only survived and came through the rocks into the Bay of Finzhal. There they made camp and lived many days, recovering from their hurts. For many years the three princes wondered and hunted north of the Ridge of Dagar, and the people of the Eldest and the Dallen grew in the south, below the Ridge. Nothing did the princes know of their people, and their people knew nothing of them, for each thought the other dead. After many years had passed, Derrocen ventured over to the feet of the Ridge below Gelion, and he desired to go up. When he had come to the lake, he saw three huts sitting beside the lake, and he wondered, for he counted himself alone save for the two brothers. When he had come nigh, three of the Dallen, his own people, came out and reconized him. Then they told him all that had happened to their fathers (for they were the second generation) and how fruitful their people were with the Eldest in the south. Then he rejoyed and returned to the brothers and they set up their kingdom, and they lived mnay happy years. The line of Sarfien was never broken, it is said, and still reigns over Deen-Narsha, although it is now covered in mist.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The major language of the Eldest when they came to Deen-Narsha was that of the Eldest Ruthian, and that of the Dallen was Yarness, which had long been estranged from their kin of other races. These languages were very different, but the Eldest learned quickly and soon a dialect came into use of the Yarness which was called Narshesse. It resembled Yarness in many ways, but it mixed with the Ruthien and became very different.

Art & Architecture

Out of the Eldest came many carpenters who loved the art of wood. From them came many great wood workers and carvers who made beautiful things. Of other craft they did little, for the people of Narsha loved few things above trees, and mostly the wood of Athaniel, which was very beautiful and strong. For their woodwork they are most known in craft in Tectomia, and they have many houses with great pillars which wave like vines. They built little of stone or metal, and few painted or drew like their kin, but their woodwork surpassed all others throughout the whole world.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Every year at the time when the stars had fallen they hold a great feast and there is celebration for seven days. When this is done, the boys who are to become a Narshal Knght go and bath in Haziar and become Knights.

Funerary and Memorial customs

All men and women are barried in one place on the isle. South of Juthulain there is a bend in the Duneth which was where the first men to die on Deen-Narsha were laid. From then on all people who died were barried there.
