The Wandering Sanctuary
"Isn't it a bit weird, though?" the child asked, face scrunched up, eyes squinted against the northern wind. Her blue eyes, full of doubt, never strayed from the horizon. "I mean it's a walking house and it's upside down!" The child huffed and clutched her steaming mug even tighter. "People shouldn’t be doing things so weird!" "Perhaps," replied the little old woman sitting beside her, a playful smile dancing on her lips. "But the master of that house is kind. A bit weird, true, especially in his taste of design, but he heals those who are hurt, eases the minds of those who've lost them, and treats illnesses with remedies no one else is capable of creating." "Really?" the child asked, her face frozen in amazement, cheeks pink and blue eyes wide. After a moment of blowing on her hot cider, she spoke in a matter-of-fact tone. "I suppose he's allowed to be as weird as he wants then."
Origin
The Wandering Sanctuary was first recorded in the Exalted Era and has been infrequently mentioned in academic texts, fairytale novels, and eyewitness accounts ever since. Despite the somewhat well documented cases and the folk tales that exist throughout the entirety of Norvosi, it's hard to put an exact date on when the Wandering Sanctuary came to be. While many details are nothing more than speculation, there are several things that everyone who recounts their experience seems to recite: the house, upside down though it is, seems to be far larger than it should be when inside; even in Laggo's Fairytales where the Wandering Sanctuary is portrayed more than seven times, there seems to be a room for every type of encounter.Purpose
No one is quite sure what the intended purpose for the Wandering Sanctuary may be. Some think the eccentric old wizard in the tower is an avatar of Oghma, while others believe he's an ancient wizard from the Exalted Era, who found the key to immortality. Still, some believe that he's a spirit of Lourgona, the fabled Cleric of Arawyn, who was given permission to heal the wounded for centuries to come. Whatever the truth may be, it seems that "Master Lou" is here to stay, for this millennia, and perhaps millennia to come. Not pictured are the spectral chicken leg-like appendages that the Master of the House uses to travel across Norvosi.
