First Darkrider Incursion Military Conflict in Keverynn | World Anvil

First Darkrider Incursion

The Conflict

Prelude

In the year 722, a ryuutenshi by the name of Kaalathkirenn predicted this particular conflict. As there had been no real large scale war on Keverynn before no one really took him seriously.

Battlefield

At the peak of the Incursion, the Darkriders had made it as far east as Kimbala and Sunhame. Many of the settlements they passed were wiped out. Tula’tevenn Province's western region still bears the scars of their passing into modern days.

Outcome

The vaen fled from Keverynn's mainland, joining the rest of their people on Alastea.

Aftermath

The River Arcetes had become so thickly clogged with the bodies of the dead that it became known as the River of Sorrow. Vileshte Island became known as Beast Island and was avoided by dragons and wyvern alike.   A new standard calendar was created in 756 by the Chume’taly astronomer He’charn Clan L’trusha and is implemented soon afterwards, replacing the old one. It was felt by the majority of the people that this was a necessary thing. The old calendar revolved heavily around the gods and their worship. After the Incursion, they felt the gods had abandoned them if they'd ever truly existed in the first place. As such, a new calendar and way of thinking needed to be established. The new one has no references to any of the gods.   The wolflings that had lived primarily on Vileshte were forced to flee their homes and find places to live elsewhere. They established a colony in the Draewood in 782.   After the fall of the Sisterhood of Sword and Sorcery magic fell out of disuse except among the wolflings and the ryuutenshi Tower Masters. By the year 957 the existence of the Sisterhood was all but forgotten, becoming something of a myth.   In 803, the town of Jeturas Hold was founded and largely settled by survivors from the Sisterhood.

Historical Significance

It's all but forgotten to modern day Darkriders that the whole point of this Incursion was Khallil's(person:dc58c058-5d54-40cd-a4ec-3ded0bc2ca61) single minded desire to reach the @[Alastean Islands. It was his insatiable curiosity about everything that led him to ponder the existence of the vaen that started the whole thing in the first place. He found out about their alien origins and wanted their knowledge and technology for himself.   This led him to unify the Darkriders, giving him a large enough army to try and take it. In the process he destroyed the Sisterhood, a guild that stood as a neutral party in all of Keverynn's affairs, as they were proving to be a major obstacle to his plans. At first he'd intended to simply eliminate the Grandmaster, but it was much easier to outright destroy the entire Sisterhood. It also seemed that this horrific act had serious repercussions on the Dragonlord troops gave the Darkrider forces an edge for a time, allowing them to push east a great deal before their enemy recovered enough to provide any real resistance.   By the time they reached Kimbala, the ryuutenshi recognized the inherent threat posed by this army and banded together to help the Dragonlords. Khalil didn't account for this as, historically, the ryuutenshi kept to their valley. It was this infusion of fresh troops that ultimately proved to be the undoing of the Darkriders. Slowly but steadily they were pushed back into their home territory across the river, granting victory to the Dragonlords.

Legacy

This began a history of conflicts between the Darkriders and the Dragonlords with the former trying to push into the latter's territory and being summarily repelled. There were three subsequent Incursions after this in the years 1026, 2084, and 2256.
