The Hall of the Archmagi

The Hall of the Archmagi is somewhere between 300 and 400 feet tall at the last count - the ongoing construction of further spires confuses the count from time to time. But ultimately it consists of one single room. This is where every large gathering of the city of Skywatch, in addition to the Academia Magisteria, and the worship of Illielle and the Empty Heaven, happens. It's said that he who became the Holy Emperor was born within a handful of feet of the Great Altar.

Purpose / Function

It is the ceremonial place for all students and faculty members of the Academia Magisteria to gather for important occasions: holy days, graduation ceremonies, recruitments, demonstrations, everything involving a display of any kind, it is done here.

Alterations

The stones were all fused together and reinforced by magic powers early into the second century of it's construction, mere years after the Golem War concluded. Aesthetic upgrades to match the tastes of whoever the Archdeacon of the Academia is at the time are completed from time to time, usually tasks assigned to newly minted magi. Beyond that, no thought to practicality has been given - even during the Rebellion, Skywatch is extremely remote and thus not a target of interest.

Architecture

The Great Hall of the Academia takes up nearly half of the great caldera the Academia is built on. On one side is the remaining structures of the Academia Magisteria, the other side overlooks the city of Skywatch. It is built of white marble, seeming one huge overarching piece, similar in style to several European cathedrals.

History

The construction began on order from he who became the Holy Western Emperor, although he almost immediately lost interest in it, assigning the underclergy of the worship of Illielle to see the task through, and they remain the caretakers of it to this day, 5 centuries later. At first it was meant to be a cathedral to Illielle and the Empty Heaven, but then the Academia Magisteria itself was founded, and the two agreed to a peaceable sharing of the building, and the Academia Magisteria would provide the upkeep. Five hundred years of graduations and demonstrations later, the agreement still stands. The Archdeacon of the Church and the Headmaster of the Academia even became the same person after a few terms.
