Aasimar

The Angel born. The Heaven-touched. Aasimar are the result of the gods looking down at the Material Plane, seeing the evil that festers inside it and creating a race that could eradicate that evil and protect the good from it. Humans were given a drop of celestial blood and their bloodline was forever changed, creating this race of angelic-like people. Amongst the Aasimar are three subraces, each unique in their role in the cosmos.

  • Fallen: As there are Fallen Angels, so too are there Fallen Aasimar. These are the Aasimar who were touched by a dark power at a young age or gave themselves to evil in adulthood. These Aasimar do not follow the angels who gave them their bloodline and instead carve their own path, whether it be one of evil or neutrality.

  • Protector: Protector Aasimar are of a bloodline meant to protect the good from the evil that festers. They do not seek out and destroy evil, tasked by their angelic guide to keep it away from the beacons of light. Aasimar in this regard reflect more of a Guardian Angel as they have the ability to summon wings of pure light and have their eyes shine like the brightest sun.

  • Scouge: Scourge Aasimar are the bloodline that will tolerate no evil. Their guides will set them out to destroy all evil wherever the can find it. These Aasimar travel the most and are likely to be unattached from the wards they're sworn to protect. They wear masks to block out the world to keep their desire to burn away evil tucked away. However, in combat, they will put away that mask and lay waste to all in their path.

Growth Rate & Stages

Aasimar mature a the same rate as humans, reaching physical and mental maturity at late teenage years.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Aasimar are found all over Kesia but a large group has been found traveling near the spellplague lands of Chardin and Haejon.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Thanks to their magical bloodline, Aasimar have obtained Darkvision and can see dim light as bright light and darkness as dim light for up to 60 feet. As usual, they can only see in shades of grey.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Aasimar who are children of humans will take names and culture from their human parents. They usually take from whatever culture they associate themselves with. However, some Aasimar who still follow their original goal may have a last name where they are named after the angelic guide who's blood turned them into Aasimar.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Aasimar are the only mortal race that has Celestial as a common tongue for them. Regardless of Aasimar type, they are born with the ability to speak it and Common . The Celestial fragments added to Common are no doubt from the Aasimar linguists who aidded in its creation.

History

The Aasimar came about during the Age of Binding when different human families began to have angelic children be born. At first, these children were scorned as they thought them like the Tieflings . However, Aasimar from beyond Kesia arrived, bringing word from Mount Celestia of the coming of the Aasimar. Any Aasimar child that was threatened had their enemy smited by an angelic guide or by one of their kind. It added to the chaos of the age until the rest of the world finally accepted the Aasimar as part of the new world order.

When the Kesian Empire rose, the Aasimar who wanted to destroy evil saw them as the greatest source of good and evil. It didn't take long for the Celestial hybrids to be engrained into Kesian society. They served as clerics, paladins, and all-around spiritual warriors there to root out evil whether it was in the organization they worked for or elsewhere.

After Kesia fell and the Age of Conquest began, Aasimar once again had to pick up arms and rout out evil. However, things had changed as these people had begun to settle down. Most of the original Aasimar no longer cared much for their mission and wanted to live among their fellow countrymen. The Protectors and Scourges of the past had even begun to spawn or become Fallen Aasimar. The great divinity of these people has lessened as a result.

Now the Aasimar live in Kesia as inhabitants, most of them living simple lives. Here and there, one will be contacted by an angelic guide to do some good work in the world. However, as time goes on, a question has emerged: Will there ever be a day where all the good Aasimar are called back to their duty by the Heavenly Host?

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Many view Aasimar as a gift from the gods. Guardians sent down into the Material Plane to cast down evil wherever it can be found. They are generally friendly to the other races, whether they be enemies of evil or just normal bystanders. However, there's an undercurrent of anxiety when the Aasimar are around. They were created as a way for the gods to route out evil. That hints at the idea that the gods don't trust mortal kind to do it themselves and that they need help. What happens when the gods view them as a pest in general? Will the Aasimar turn against them then?

Until that supposed day, the Aasimar will be viewed as good people in public. The only race they really have tensions with are the tieflings with their connection to the Nine Hells and the Abyss. While is stereotypical for the two to dislike each other, there are Aasimar and Tiefling who fight side-by-side either on the side of good, evil, or their own personal gain.
