The Great Mycelium
Unknown and Unseen
Deep under Kelunbar forest, something has been growing. It stretches deeper than the roots of the Sequoia Stump, beyond the reaches of the forest and under the Bodurn Mountains into whatever world lies there. The bumers know there is some great living thing underground, but they don't know what. The mysums dream of it during winter, but no one truly knows the scope of the Great Mycelium.
The Forest Web
The Mycelium grew out of the death of the First Tree, even the six Beings were not aware of this creature that helped turn the First Tree into a habitable place for the creatures of Kelunbar to live. When the Beings abandoned their creation, and the mightiest creatures and trees of Kelunbar fell, the Mycelium remained, and the Mycelium kept what was left of the forest alive by transmuting death into life. It shook the world when it swallowed the giant trees and old dragons, destroying what was once known, but allowing the races of Kelunbar to being anew. The Mycelium stretches underneath the forest now like a great web, feeding the earth that feeds the plants that feeds animals. It keeps the forest attached to what is left of the First Tree and it grows closer to the dead heart of the First Tree with each passing year. The Mycelium knows that there is great power there. It knows that the forest would be stronger with it.Mysums
Mysums are the most aware of the presence of the Mycelium, though that awareness is shrouded in superstition. Some believe that it created the tunnels that the mysums retreat to in the winter by burrowing and then retreating from these spaces. During the winter, the mysums hibernate, and often receive dreams and visions. Some mysums believe that these come from the Mycelium. Others believe that they come from Mykel, Being of Death. The dreams that the mysums receive can take many forms, and mysums never dream above ground. Some mysums receive visions of a large and complicated web-like structure. Some have seen huge mushrooms that existed before the Beings left. Some have seen a giant tree centered in a large expanse of nothingness. Muscas specifically value these visions and pass them on orally generation to generation, comparing them and using them to construct both a history of Kelunbar and predictions of the future. Cibas perceive them as interesting phenomenon. A few mysums have reported to seeing parts of the Mycelium underground, describing large but fragile-looking white tendrils growing along the tunnels walls. One mysum said that they felt these tendrils and they were soft, and tasted like "all of the forest at once." Most mysums dismiss this as being normal mushroom growth.

I always find if fascinating how large a single fungal organism can grow in real life, and this is like an extreme version of it. I enjoy that one of the mysums claim to have tasted their god. XD There's a lot of really fascinating details here.
Right?? Mushrooms are just wild. I think the largest known one is up in the northwest of the US and it stretches across a few miles.
