Wishful Tattooing
Wishful Tattooing is a tradition among some cultures in the Fourth Age, in which Vita-Touched tattoo artists place Wish Tattoos on people. Done annually, this often involves large groups of tattoo receivers, as most return to have theirs refreshed.
Wish Tattoos are a special type of passively magical tattoo, which is said to imbue positive emotions on its owner, and repel bad luck and negativity. However, unlike other magical tattoos, no spells are weaved into their structure, leading many to doubt that the tattoos really work, or at least are truly magical in nature. Nevertheless, the tradition holds fast, and many find that the assurance at least is helpful to them.
History
Wishful Tattooing began in the Fourth Age. Passively magical tattoos were designed for all manner of things, and repelling bad luck was a topic that many loved to explore, to little success. The topic of bad luck, and of negativity in general, was simply too broad and feeble to build magic around.
Some Vita-Touched instead came up with the idea to place regular, non-magical tattoos, but imbue them with positive emotions and wishful energy. Those who received the tattoos often expressed that it helped them, nurturing those same emotions and warding bad luck away. From there, the Wish Tattoos took off, eventually leading to Wishful Tattooing as a tradition and celebration.
Components and tools
At the very least, Wishful Tattooing requires a Vita-Touched to set the tattoo, a person to receive the tattoo, something to set the tattoo with, and pigment for the tattoo. In most cases, the ritual involves several Vita-Touched working simultaneously, and on larger planets may even expand into a larger party and celebration.
