The Northern or Tharian White Tiger

The Northern or Tharian Tiger is the largest living cat species and a member of the genus Panthera (related felines due to cranial features, which includes: The Lion, Leopard, Jaguar, Panther, and Tiger). It is most recognisable for its dark vertical stripes on white, or near-white fur with a lighter underside. It is an apex predator, primarily preying on Deer, Elk and Boar. It is territorial and generally a solitary but social predator, requiring large areas of habitat, which support its requirements for prey and rearing of its offspring.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The tiger has a muscular body with powerful forelimbs, a large head and a tail that is about half the length of its body. Its fur is dense and heavy, and colouration varies between all white and near-white, and white and near-white with black markings that are unique in each individual. Stripes are likely advantageous for camouflage in rocky foothills, shrubland, wooded areas, and the long grass of the plains.

Genetics and Reproduction

The tiger mates all year round, but most cubs are born between Ploh (March) and Eath (June), with a second peak in Leafall (September). Gestation ranges from 93 to 114 days, with an average of 103 to 105 days. Litters consist of two or three cubs, rarely as many as six.

Growth Rate & Stages

Cubs weigh from 780 to 1,600 grams each at birth, and are born with eyes closed. They open their eyes when they are six to 14 days old. They start to eat meat at the age of eight weeks. Females lactate for five to six months. Around the time they are weaned, they start to accompany their mother on territorial walks and are taught how to hunt. The cubs start hunting on their own, earliest at the age of 11 months, and become independent around 18 to 20 months of age. They separate from their mother at the age of two to two and a half years, but continue to grow until the age of five years. Young females reach sexual maturity at three to four years, whereas males at four to five years.

Ecology and Habitats

Tiger populations thrive where their food source is plentiful. The tiger’s natural habitat are woodland, foothills and mountains, marshland, and open plain grassland and tundra.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Carnivore. Tigers mostly feed on large and medium-sized mammals, particularly deer, elk, boar, wild cattle, and horses. Tigers can take down larger prey like Giant Elk and eat much smaller prey, such as wild fowl and other ground-based birds, hares, and fish. When in close proximity to humans, tigers will also sometimes prey on such domestic livestock as cattle, horses, and donkeys. Although almost exclusively carnivorous, tigers will occasionally eat vegetation and fruit for dietary fibre.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Solitary or small family groups.

Domestication

The Tribe of the White Tiger keep these beasts as guardians and hunting partners. All such tiger’s have been reared since they were cubs.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Tigers have been hunted at a large scale so their famous striped skins could be collected. Tiger parts are commonly used as amulets in the South and Southeast of Kelldoria (Talaria. Illyria, and Emidia).   Many people in Khitalia and other nations Beyond the Eastern Frontier have a belief that various tiger parts have medicinal properties, including as pain killers and aphrodisiacs. There is no scientific evidence to support these beliefs.

Facial characteristics

A sleek feline face with ice blue or amber eyes. A strong jaw and a mouth full of sharp armour piercing teeth.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Northern or Tharian Tiger can see just as well in the darkness as in daylight due to having darkvision. They also have very keen hearing and an exceptional sense of smell.
