The Snake Tooth Mountains
The most southerly mountain range in the west of Euristan, the Snake Tooth Mountains separates the sweltering strip of jungle, the Ascar Giss from the magical chaos of the Desolation of Melchis to the north.
Once, deep in the mists of time, when the world was young, the Snake Tooth Mountains were joined with their grander cousins to the east, the Heavenspire Mountains. However, when the Divine Jore was goaded by his father Astartes to demonstrate the full extent of his prodigious strength, the two mountain ranges were split in twain by the fiery Divine, as Jore tore the landmass apart, creating the Strait to the Centric Sea that still bears his name to this day.
Whilst this tumultuous event left the Heavenspire Mountains mostly unscathed, the Snake Tooth Mountains have suffered from ferocious bouts of volcanic activity, which has only been intensified by the creation of the magical wasteland, the Desolation of Melchis to the north during the Divine War. When wind blows across the peaks from the north, sweeping the magical energies from the Desolation of Melchis with it, the peaks of the Snake Tooth Mountains are said to writhe and squirm as if made from snakes themselves.
Geography
The Snake Tooth Mountains are a highly volatile region, whose oddly thin, sharp peaks are reminiscant of the fangs of snakes. Those peaks are regulalry raked by earthquakes and lave can often be seen oozing down their slopes. An oft observed phenomenon is to see the Snake Tooth Mountains illuminated at night by the trails of lava dripping down their sides.
These intense bouts of volcanic instability mean that the Snake Tooth Mountains are intensly difficult to navigate, not only because of the risk of falling rocks or encountering rivers of lava, but also because the passes between the peaks regualrly shift and change. This means that it is rare to be able to navigate the same pass twice through the range, and many travellers have recorded that passes have sealed up behind them, or their way forward has suddenly vanished as the mountains have slithered restlessly around them.
