Poseidon, God of Water
Holy Symbol:
Alignment: TN
Domain(s): Water
Favored Weapon: Trident
Favored Race: Of all of the races found in the world Poseidon favors the elves. Because of their long life spans they are slow to act in most conflicts and when they do it is usually for the survival of their own people. This tendency to be indifferent to the goods and evils and to think everything through makes them very interesting to Poseidon.
Favored Class: He appreciates the Cleric for his ability for both healing and destruction. A cleric seems to be the balance between good and evil, thus making it a prime neutral choice.
Background Story:
Back during the times of the old gods, there was one god who controlled water, wind and fire. This god went down to earth and created three minions, one from each of these elements. First he created the good obedient minion of air named Hastor. Next he created the indifferent child of water named Poseidon. Finally he created the wild and unruly creature of fire known as Vulcan. Each of these minions he made masters of their respective elements but he also made them reliant on one another. For fire to survive it feeds on air, and if it gets out of control it can be simmered down by water. Air can go as far as it wants but when fire is in the room it starts to eat all of the oxygen that it can and water relies on the air to take it through its normal processes. It needs air to take it into the skies and create clouds so that it can feed the land and stop a fire. Underneath the watchful gaze of their creator the three siblings remained in control and went throughout their duties in piece. But then something unexpected happened, the fall of the old gods. Upon the death of their master the three minions rose to the position of godhood, each having ultimate control of their elements, but each wanting more. They knew that their now deceased father had found the ways to control all elements with an iron fist so they followed in his footsteps and created the elemental chalice. The drinker of this chalice is granted complete domination of the elements and would become the master of all; here is where the conflicts started. Hastor felt that he should become the all mighty because the elements must be ruled for the good of all and must be controlled with rules and morals. Poseidon claimed that the elements must exist in neutrality and be unbiased on whether it aids or harms any group of people. Vulcan felt differently than both, he saw the elements as the gateway to control of all. He wanted to unleash the combined furry of all three elements and bend the world to his will. As the argument furthered they finally hit the point of open warfare. This started the war of the elements. The three siblings sent their armies against one another. Tornadoes, hurricanes and wildfires raged across the lands. Elementals of all types met in open battle around the war, and supporters of all three did what they could to eliminate their rivals. This war went on for hundreds of years until one day an unknown figure snuck into the grand temple of the elements, the home of the grand ruler for each elemental temple (the only place where the three elements exist in piece), and stole the Elemental Chalice. They stole it and fled, hiding this most powerful of items in a place that none of them knew. With the loss of their gateway to power, the war subsided and the three brothers came to a temporary stalemate. Ever since then they have searched the world tirelessly, waiting for the raise to power and domination of the elements.
(The chalice was stolen by the follower of Jax known as Holy Defender Camilla and it has been hidden deep within the Banishment of the Crows temple. She was ordered to steal this by Jax for the protection of all, fearing the power of one god that could rule all elements. Only Jax, Camilla and Alejo know of the Chalices location or how to enter the room in question. They have never revealed this act to avoid open conflict with the elemental gods, this is a secret that none can know, and if they have their way none besides these three will ever know.) Achievements: Poseidon has accomplished many achievements but he has three that he is most fond of. The first was the creation of his two most prized minions, the leviathan of the seas and the ancient water dragon named Paranthion. He granted both of these creatures with unimaginable power as well as the ability to communicate directly with him whenever they choose. They were created to protect Poseidon’s realms as well as his sacred temple and holy items. This leads us to his second achievment, the creation of his holy temple, The Pearl of the Sea. This magnificent structure is located on the ocean floor in the deepest part of the deepest fissure. On the outside it looks like a magnificent pear, while on the inside it appears to be a maze of aquariums where all manner of fish and minions of Poseidon can be found. This temple can only be reached by people who brave the ocean, and only those who have a way to breath underwater and risk the wrath of the leviathan or Dragon will dear make that journey. In the end it is mainly only his most trusted of followers that find their way there but on rare occasion he will grant access to his champions or champions of his allies. His final achievement was the destruction of a poor mortal who desired to steal Poseidon’s godhood. A very old sorcerer by the name of Bernardo found a way to challenge a god to a duel, if he won he would steal that dieties position and his godly hood. He challenged Poseidon but in the end it was a grave mistake. The battle ended with Poseidon’s trident deep within his throat and he now wanders the ocean floors, a haunted misshapen soul for daring to challenge his god. Worshipping: Poseidon’s temples can only be found next to or in water, you will never find one unless it is next to the ocean, a river, or a lake of some sort. Out of all of his temples, there are four that are considered grand temples. First there is The Pearl of the Sea which is home to his most holy of followers as well as his main form of communication with the world. The people that live here are known as the Priests of the Waves. Another of the grand temples is the Cove of Poseidon. This is the home of the faction known as Pirates of Poseidon. His other main temple is the Floating temple of Searchers. This is the home of the rivals to the Pirates known as The Rangers of the Seas. The final temple is the one shared between him and his two brothers known as The Grand Temple of the Elements. This is the one place that the brothers’ forces can meet in peace. This is the home of the Grand Rulers of all three elements so that they can keep an eye on one another. Along with these rulers is the elite guard that follows them around.
Commandments: just like his brothers Poseidon’s first commandment is that his followers constantly search for the Elemental Chalice. His second commandment is the his two sacred items be found. He will only accept the Golden Trident and the Hammer of Tsunamis from either the Pirates of Poseidon or the Rangers of the Sea. They will be brought to him my the two best members from either whichever faction finds them and they must be presented at the same time. The two brother members who bring the weapons to him will become his ultimate champions and the leaders of his forces when he rises to power. For this reason the Pirates of Poseidon and the Rangers of the Seas are die hard rivals and in constant competition for his favor. His final commandment is that his followers respect the sea and never pollute or take that which they do not need. Along with this goes the protection of all waters as well as the creatures that live in them. He allows things like fishing for the survival of a person and their family but frowns upon fishing for wealth alone.
Omens and Signs:
Still waters
Waves in the shape of animals or faces
Tsunamis
Artifacts:
Golden Trident – lost in the North Seas
Hammer of Tsunamis – lost in the baltic sea
Ceremonies/Holidays:
Poseidon has one main holiday and two well known ceremonies.
The day of the seas is his most holy of days. This was made to celebrate the day that Poseidon was born. On this day people refrain from venturing into waters such as rivers, lakes or seas out of respect for Poseidon. Those who do tend to find the waters very harsh and inhospitable. As for his ceremonies, the most important two are the ritual of the ocean and the day of the father. During the ritual of the ocean Poseidon’s high priests can call upon their god to bring the wrath of the Leviathan directly to their location to protect them from Poseidon’s enemies. This is done with the self sacrifice of one of the high clerics from the Pearl of the Sea. For this reason the Leviathan is only summoned in times of dire need. The Day of the Father is his other holy ceremony. In this ceremony followers of Poseidon pray to their god and burn a symbol of one of his brothers in order to ask for his favor. An example of when they would do this would be when they are in need of food or they are lost at sea.
Sects:
Pirates of Poseidon: this is one of the two factions that are dedicated to finding Poseidon’s two holy weapons in order to become his champions. They search tirelessly for these items and will do whatever it takes to get these weapons and please their god. This group is currently being led by commander Zacarias Vasco.
Hierarchy:
Commander (leader)
First officers (his right/left hand men)
Mariners (veteran members)
Shipmen (the new members)
Rangers of the Seas: This is the competing faction with the Pirates of Poseidon. They do all that they can to find these legendary items before the pirates do. The two factions constantly find themselves in massive battles at sea and endlessly try to undermine the other. The leader of this group is the fiery young woman known as Ibbie Gracia.
Hierarchy: this group has a limited hierarchy, they have a leader and their commander and the rest are followers.
Priests of the Waves: This is the group of Poseidon’s most faithful followers. They call their home The Pearl of the Sea and dedicate their life to doing Poseidon’s bidding and finding him the Elemental Chalice. This is the group of people who can directly communicate with Poseidon on a regular basis. Their leader is the High Priestess Fidelia Vasco, wife of Zacarias Vasco.
Hierarchy: once a member is accepted into this faction they are all seen as the same rank, they are all high priests, only one person stands out which is the high priest most favored by Poseidon, the one who moves to the Grand Temple of the Elements.
Aphorisms and Words of Wisdom:
Pay head to the sea!
May Poseidon return you home safely.
Noteable Minions or NPCs: Zacarias Vasco: He is a bear of a man with a thick black beard, massive muscles and Poseidon’s holy symbol burn into his forehead. He fights with a scimitar in one hand and a grappling hook/chain in the other. He is the leader of the Pirates of Poseidon and is married to high pristess Fidelia Vasco.
Ibbie Gracia: she is the young leader of the Rangers of the Sea. She has dark brown hear to go with her dark green eyes. These features make her a rarity since elves dont usually have brown hair and green eyes. She fights mainly with longbow known as the tide bow. This bow never requires ammo because it shoots an endless amount of arrows made completely of water which has been blessed by Poseidon himself to be able to pierce even the strongest of armors. When enemies get close to her though she gives them a firsthand demonstration of her skill with her gods favorite weapon the trident.
High Priestess Fidelia Vasco: She is the leader of Poseidon’s Priests of the Waves. She is a half ealf with flowing blond hair and bright blue eyes. Although she calls her home the Pearl of the Sea she lives in the Grand Temple of the Elements in order to keep an eye on Poseidon’s enemies and pass his judgment. She is married to Zacarias Vasco, but although she is his wife she has promised Poseidon not to help him with his quest, she must remain neutral like Poseidon himself.
