A Coastal Fairytale

The road meanders upwards

White and cream terraces

Sparser as you spy the hill top

Adorned with a green, red and brown cloak.

Looking back we survey the golden blanket

Lapped by the foamy surf and silvery sea

Lilliput ants troop to the water’s edge

A carapace of boards marching alongside

Now shielded by a clash of blackened rock

A glimpse of the savage beauty to come

  We reach the smuggler’s village

And descend the secret steps to a rocky cove

Treacherous boulders like giant’s teeth

Gnashing, Snarling,

Foaming at the mouth.

Traversing the belly of the beast

We escape with our lives

Our hearts in our mouths

As we see the wild waves

Jumping up to reach us

Up, up we climb

Safe in the knowledge

That our sandy grail

Will be back in our sights

Our quest complete.
