The Blade of Sehella

At the southern tip of the Virtibus Mountains stand the shattered remnants of the Black Needle known as The Blade of Sehella. For years it has drawn the curiosity of scholars, historians, and criminals hoping to grab a piece of the precious materials found within the ruins. Despite this, the ever present sense of foreboding that hangs around all Black Needles still holds a sufficient presence over The Blade so as to frighten off even the natural wildlife. The area surrounding the ruins is barren earth as trees and grasses wither and die in the presence of the Black Needle, and while many a curious soul has wandered close enough to touch the ruins they all return swiftly to their camps as soon as their tasks have ended, none daring to stay longer than needed within the influence of the Black Needle.

Purpose / Function

For decades royal scholars have sought to understand the mysteries of the Black Needles which dot both Magtarius Major and Ardland, the The Blade of Sehella represents a rare glimpse into the interior of these massive structures and has helped to massively accelerate mankind's understanding of these arcane constructs.
While debates still rage in the academic community as the the true purpose of the Black Needles even to this day, evidence gathered from The Blade of Sehella indicates that these structures were likely designed as conduits of some nature, their interior packed with millions of tiny tube-like structures of unknown material, surrounded by yet more of the black stone-like material the exterior superstructure is comprised of. Another popular theory postulates that the Black Needles are in fact resonators of some design, possible for use as long-range communications devices, as experiments conducted on some of the smaller debris collected from the site have show that when provided with a sufficiently powerful electrical or magical charge, the material surrounding the conduit tubes will begin emitting powerful electromagnetic fields. Several scientists have suggested that if the concepts behind the resonance process used in the Black Needles could be understood it may be possible to emulate their function and create long range telecommunications networks without the need for telegraph cabling, though with the recent re-establishment of the sympathetic communication network this line of research has seen little interest.

Architecture

The first 350 meters of the Blade of Sehella appear nearly identical to all other so-far discovered Black Needles, a smooth obelisk of scintillating abyssal-black material with no markings, insignia, or signs of entry. However the upper 650 meters of the structure have been ripped asunder and scattered across nearly 2 square kilometres of land to the south-east of the main structure. The method of the Blade's destruction is unknown, as even the most powerful modern cannons are only able to chip a Black Needle, and even the ancient relic weapons held by the Magtarian Accord are unable to damage the outer layer of these structures in any meaningful way.
The interior of the structure is comprised of a vertical lattice of millions to billions of minuscule golden tubes joined seemingly at random by horizontal paths of the same material. Testing of the silvery material reveals it to share many of the properties of Mordrite though with a slightly lower durability and significantly higher conductivity.
