Riggers

Riggers crew vast wheeled bulk transporters called rigs. they are the only cheap reliable way of supplying the outposts, mines and research posts of the ice and desert wastes. The only other option being aircraft; however frequent sand storms or blizzards make air transport unreliable and orbital transport too expensive.
The rigs them selves can reach anywhere between 100-150 meters long, 15-30 meters tall and 20-40 meters wide, the whole rig being given over to cargo space except for the engine room which is usually 1/5th of a rigs length and a single deck at the top of the rig for the crew needs.
Rigs are usually armed to defend themselves against the planet's predators. However, precisely what armaments a rig has is down to the crew.

Structure

all rigger crews work for one of the noble houses, receiving contracts from them to haul their goods and other needs. However comradeship between rigger crews is usually acceptable, with only a few friendly rivalries amongst the crews. If asked rigger crews will state that they all need to stick together out in the wastes, noble house contracts doesn't matter if you don't make it back from a run with your rig and life intact.
