Authun Ufisson rules the lands claimed by the kingdom known as Grenmarr. The title of Kral, as the ruler of Grenmarr has been called since one first ascended the throne some 1000 years ago, has never been one inherited by birth. Instead, heirs are chosen, adopted, and groomed into the position, and the case was no different for Authun.
Born into one of the lesser houses, Authun was destined to remain in a life of relative mediocrity however Fate and Authun had other plans. Authun's family lands are located in the far eastern reaches of Grenmarr, an area known as Winterbriand Plains. A brutal expanse, with no warm water ports to provide shipping and constant attacks from barbarian tribes to the far north, the people of Winterbraind Plains are especially hearty, even for Northmen. The people of this region generally survive on seals, penguins, fish, and game from hunting. Pelts, blubber, and timber are traded with the rest of Grenmarr for what these staples can't provide. Authun's family had survived for generations by overseeing these transactions and conducting various sallies against the barbarian tribes to ensure the people could live in relative peace
Every ten years, tournaments are held in Athadover, the capital of Grenmarr. Traditionally called Krueg, these tournaments cover a wide variety of skills involving archery, sparring, foot and boat races, and a number of events for both men and women as well as children. It was at these games, when Authun was only 14 years old, that he impressed the sitting Kral, Kodran Ondott. During a Circle, the common name for a sparring match, Authun bested a man nearly twice his age. Kral Kodran sent for the boy and, after a time, named him his heir.
Kral Authun has proved a capable leader although at times uncouth and rough. While he has no head for diplomacy, he has tasked his diplomats to open trading with both the dwarves of Clan Frostbeard as well as Feasgar (Twilight Elves), reigniting trade relations that have been all but dead for nearly 200 years. Sadly, this is Kral Authun's only triumph as king. The Kral himself characteristically spends much of his time enjoying fine foods, alcohol, and women, leaving the real task of governance to his advisers, who manage his lands and affairs while he occupies himself with his hobbies.
