The old gods have left us. That's what they say anyway. Long ago, before the race of men, when even the kingdoms of elves and dwarves were in their infancy, the gods walked as mortals and spent time among their followers. It was in this age that the elves and dwarves banded together to form a mighty army that they might march on Calrin, later known as The Sundered Kingdom, in an ill-fated attempt to strike down Fyrn, the god of war, thus ushering in eternal peace. While many died in what became known as The Saint's War, a small band of heroes fought Fyrn alone. One by one they were struck down until the heroes Beinion Silverleaf, the elf, and Bhardod Flintbrow, the dwarf, were left and engaged Fyrn alone.   With his last breath, as he lay dying on the battlefield, Fyrn cursed both the races of elves and dwarves and brought the sky crashing down upon them all. The Saint's War forever changed the face of Karth. It was then that mountains were brought down from the sky, causing the Yawning Chasm to split the earth just on the edge of The Sundered Kingdom. The chasm now stands as a reminder of the hubris of both elves and dwarves. Many elves and dwarves fell into the pit. Some say the darkness changed them beyond reckoning.   As for those left on the surface, the kingdoms of elves and dwarves quickly began to wane as the curse of Fyrn began to take hold. As kingdoms of men began to spring up, the elves and dwarves hid from the world while men conducted war, constantly vying for power. The death of Fyrn did nothing to bring about peace and, instead, caused even more bloodshed.   As for the other gods, after Fyrn's death, some say they gathered at the sea and set sail across the ocean. Others say that they built a castle in the clouds and reside there. Some say they died out long ago. There are those that believe they grew fearful of their creations after one of them had been struck down by mortals. Rumors also spread that they left in order to curb their own anger at their playthings rather than destroy them. The truth is lost to the ages and many sects have their own opinions about the truth but the minds of gods are not the minds of men and so many are left wondering if they have been abandoned.   Whatever the truth, they no longer reside among their creations. Those left on Karth sought new gods to fill the void...
