Strange visions begin to plague the priests and commoners faithful to the gods of the The Tetrarchy of Faith , while the nobility of the lands in further East, on the other side of the Stormsea.
This is the story of the Crimson Crusade, as it happened.
Strange visions begin to plague the priests and commoners faithful to the gods of the The Tetrarchy of Faith , while the nobility of the lands in further East, on the other side of the Stormsea.
After a year of investigation, the Inquisition take matters into their own hands, and begin a systematic and violent takeover of the Tetrarchy, removing the Vassal-Priests and the Crimson Flame through force and torture.
As Marcos took control of the Tetrarchy, the inquisition set about to hunt perceived heretics and traitors of the Faith. Meanwhile, reports spread of rumbling in the seas, and strange gouts of steam coming out of the ocean
The Current Crimson Flame dies of mysterious circumstances, and the Tetrarchy enteres into another war against itself, with the different priest of the Iron King, Silver Queen and Golden Prince threatening to disband. The heads priests of each of the gods call a council, and a new Crimson Flame is elected: Aragones el Navegante.
A strange affliction has began to sweep the noble houses of the Malbellón, it spreads quickly, and causes panic when it turn out is not a disease, but vampirism
lAs the vampires rebelled in their victory, and supped on the blood of the fallen, the survivors of the eastlands travelled West, and in a fevered dream, Aragones saw a figure, cloaked in shadow, that was the one responsible for the Fall of their kingdoms. As they traveled, the land shook, and took much of the Eastlands to the sea, creating enormous waves that sank several ships of the fleet, and caused a tremendous catastrophe to the West of Karash.
After arriving at the Southlands, the now-renamed Crimson Crusaders began to establish a foothold along the Iron Coast, with the first Holy City of Santaterra. In the coming months, they would fight against raiders, ogres, and inhabitants of the Southlands.
The Crimson Flame of the Tetrarchy of Faith, Aragon el Navegante, dies of his age, at 129 years. The Main priests of the Tetrarchy convene to chose a new Crimson Flame in the new city of Arascón.
After days of reconvening, a priest of the Silver Queen, Amber du Cuthbert, is proclaimed as the new Crimson Flame. A month later, Amber claims to have found a relic of Aragon el Navegante, and with it, a vision of a Shadow rising from the north; a Crusade is called to advance towards the The Northlands.
The Crimson Crusade begins in earnest, with the sacking of Lagom, later renamed Lagomia, the battle begins in earnest as Northern troops from Numbreon, Twelve-Towers City, Southwick, and Einslake send contingents of troops. Despite their technological and terrain advantage, the Crimson Crusade carries on, shielding their troops with Holy Wards, and Arcane fire hurled at the technological machines of these cities. Spies are sent towards the cities of the Valley Princes, to keep away mercenaries or any of the Princes to make alliances with the Northen cities, with a possible exception of Theban.
The Crimson Crusade takes the city of Numbreon, and begins to prepare for a siege. Civilians are let to flee the city in the following days, but some try to take weapons to fight the Crusaders. Town criers in Twelve-Tower city claim that hundreds of civilians of Numbreon have been butchered, and that their bodies littler the streets. Artificers and members of the recently-funded Academy lend their services, and many sky-ships and Steam Automata are prepared for war.
Northern soldiers land on the forests near Numbreon in the dead of night, but are later discovered by group of Crusader rangers patrolling the area. A battle is joined and a horn of warning is sound. Crimson Crusaders (lead by a Paladin of the Oath of Conquest, Guy de Lusingan) ride to attack the northern strike force. They did not took captives. At the following day, seven Sky Ships are seen approaching the city. The Crusader's Siege Weapons are no match for them, for the ships are too high for the catapults and trebuchets to reach them. However, once they lowered in altitude -thinking that the crusaders were out of ammo- the Crimson Crusade resumed fire, now with weapons blessed with holy wrath. The Crimson Crusade survived the battle, but the siege was only beginning.
Soldiers from Twelve-Tower City, exiled militia from Numbreon, and soldiers from Biersport and Druthhaven came to besiege the city of Numbreon. For three months they tried to block the river access to the city, but the Crusaders held on, thanks to the efforts of clerics producing water for the city, as well as night attacks from Guy de Lusignan and his soldiers to take water. Cannons were brought, but a strange storm came and blocked the sight. Several wizards and artificers tried to clear the storm, but something was in the wind. Clerics from the Crimson Crusade were trying to block the sight and effectiveness of their weapons, and by the time they knew, the Crimson Crusade sent a large portion of their soldiers agains the attackers. They hit hard and fast, like a thunderbolt, against the northern army, and forced them to route back into the mountains. The Crusade held on, and now began to take the offensive.
The Crusade began a slow and careful march of towards Twelve-Tower City, but the Crimson Flame Amber dreaded the idea of fighting them in the mountains, so he tried to lure them to leave their city, and began to pillage the villages, farmsteads and other territories in the lowlands that adhered to them, but, for two months, they did nothing. Spies in Twelve-Tower city informed Amber that the people were rioting, that there was no food, and that they could just go there and take it. Seeing that some of the men wanted to simply abandon the Crusade, Amber decided to quickly go there and take it, especially with some of the recently decomissioned sky-ships they had stolen from the Northen Cities during the Siege of Numbreon. As they approached, cannon fire rang through the mountains, raining lead towards the Crusaders: it was a trap, their spies betrayed them. Clerics and Priests provided assistance and protection that day, and soon enough, Crusaders were using wrecks of sky-ships are cover from the artillery and cannon fire. Taumathurge-Steam met with Divine Wrath that first day, and the siege began, with fights breaking out in the walls, the inner sections when Crusader-ships broke into the city, and even in the underground, when Crusaders began sapping close to the walls, and getting into the under-tunnels of the city. However, it was in this time that the newly-crowned Prince of Theban ordered the execution of all diplomats and priests loyal to the Crimson territories, as well as a unification of all the Valley Princes to "repel the invaders". So, for the moment, the Crusaders had to focus on taking this city, and later on would deal with the princes.
Members of Twelve-Tower City nobility came out of the walls to parlay with Amber (whom had now been called St. Cuthbert, due to his role on saving several Crusaders many times during the siege) and the rest of the commanders of the Crimson Crusade. There are no recorded witnesses of what was discussed in their meetings, but St. Cuthbert called the siege off, and ordered the troops to return to Numbreon and await orders... Except for a trio of soldiers (among them Guy de Lusingan) whom would accompany six other individuals from Twelve-Tower City and Druthhaven to somewhere up north, into what the northmen called the Dwarfholds.
St. Cuthbert would keep in touch with his three chosen ones as they traveled along in the Dwarfholds, and three months later, he would declare that the Crusade had been a success: The had found the source of the Darkness in the Dwarfholds: An Elder Vampire that had travelled from the Westlands into Karash, and from there, used his vampiric powers to destroy the wards that held the curse, and force the Sanguinary Wars. They also found that he had plagued Aragon with nightmares, but, in a testament of his will, he had written that there was something in the North that was plaguing them. In time, The only surviving chosen warrior of the Crimson Crusade that went into this adventuring campaign, Guy de Lusignan, was given proper honors and called High Marshall of the Knights of Iron, and Warden of the city of Lagomia.
After several peace talks, the cities of the Northlands, and the Crimson Territories signed an accord of sealing 'an everlasting peace', with the Crimson Crusaders giving back plenty of the territory taken from the North (except Lagomia).
