Stormbreaker Bay

"You want a ship to Aleport? That'll cost the usual amount, plus a few local trinkets for good luck... Oh, you want to Sail to the Last Port? Well, I'll double the fee, and you might want to give me that fancy sword... No, no, it's a tribute for the Sahuagin, also... To the Old Sea Gods, I don't want a demonstorm taking our ship down..." Yinnig Drakkath, captain of the Lucky Lu   Stormbreaker Bay is known for many things: The Fighting Pits, The Brothels, the plenty of sages and historians willing to study the strange artifacts from the Rockneedle Valley, and the almost constant storms that fight its shores. Despite this, plenty of the sailors here are keen to see the weather in the area in spectacular accuracy, so much so that they get employed from places such as Aleport, and the Last Port, as they travel through the Broken Coast.   Stormbreaker Bay is also a known city that has caravans and the occasional sky-ship travel to the mysterious Rockneedle Valley, a stronge desert filled with Obelisks made of vitrified stone. Those adept in magic claim some of these obelisks have small amounts of magic inside, and occasionally find strange artifacts of stone and bronze, made in an era long forgotten.

Demographics

The Majority of the citizens are Gnomes and Kobolds (so plenty of the buildings are accommodated for small size), but there are also some Dragonborn, and Balam Tabaxi living in the city as sailors, lending their services to ships that require fresh crew.

Government

The city is run by a Mayor, usually one of the older residents that happens to be a captain of a ship or a fleet, the Mayor is often elected by the Seawolves Union, a group of likeminded captains that maintain local businesses.

Defences

Besides the obvious weather, the city is defended by several towers, redoubts and naval defenses against incoming pirates or the odd sea-critter that may come ashore. Members of the local Warmage Academy also lend their hand against any possible threats.

Industry & Trade

Most of the industry of Stormbreaker Bay revolves around the maintaining the naval and sky-ships that come in and out in an almost daily basis, as well as a few sages that lend their services to any subjects referring to artifacts coming from the Rockneedle Valley.

Infrastructure

The dock installations at Shipbreaker Bay (both at sea and in the sky-port) are second to none, as all the shipwrights in the city are well adept at repairing and maintaining the ships coming through the storms, as well as doing so while there is a storm; also, there are plenty of pulleys, and several other contraptions in the docks to take hold of a ship, lift it, and keep it safe while the seas calm down.   Additionally, plenty of the lights in the city are kept with magic from the local artificer guild, whom also work alongside the shipwrights at the sky-ports. The City's sewers, and drains all flow into the sea, though some suspect the local alchemist guild do be working on "something" to make use of the sewage... Though, what exactly, no one wants to know.

Assets

Besides the many Shipwrights, the docks and the guild houses for the workers, the city holds a good number of inns, taverns and gambling halls that accommodate the sailors near The Docks, but on the Raven Square, this is the place for the many explorers to gather and investigate the strange artifacts of the Rockneedle Valley.

Guilds and Factions

The Stormbreaker Shipwright guild keeps control of most of the dock activity, as well as several smaller guilds that deal with naval and aerial trade; the Stormbreaker Warmage Guild keeps a fort in the outskirts of the city, keeping watch to the road going to the Rockneedle Valley, and the docks.

History

Several years after the foundation of the River Kingdom by the Gnomes, Stormbreaker Bay was made as a jumping point from the Turtle's Nest Eastward, towards the mysterious Rockneedle Valley: A strange desert filled with standing monoliths of vitrified stone. The Gnomes and Kobolds were curious as to who made them and why, and while even today there are no clear answers, it is suspected that it may have been built by the Elves, but if they were, they are not telling.   At first, the city started only as a small port, a jumping point to the waste; as time went on, and stories of fantastic treasure and artifacts caught on, more and more people began to work and live in the city. Then the fishing hauls came, and even more people began to move in.

Architecture

The architecture is, more than stylistic, it is mostly utilitarian, adapting the the weather of the place, instead of embellishing the outside. On the inside, however, the architecture is much more splendid, with good use of murals, wide spaces for crowds, several chimneys for the heat, and other elements to keep the water outside, so the occupants are nice, dry and warm.

Geography

Stormbreaker bay is locates in the Flatlands of the River Kingdoms, a vast grass field dotted with small forested areas, which contrasts greatly with the Windfury Coast.   Near the coast are the Stormturtle Islands, named as such because of the strange basalt columns along its shores.

Natural Resources

Plenty of fish can be found in the area, as well as some iron, copper and tin in the Stormturtle Islands.
