The E.I.N.S. is the first of a new class of star seed ships developed by the shipyard at Engeveis in Kaleaspace. As an experimental ship, Admiral Rabsa Starslash has decided to use it as the training ship for the Kalean Squadron. In order to test the ship she has decided to send it on an interstellar trip to the Realmspace. This will give the crew, young midshipmen, nobles all, a chance to experience interstellar travel. Additionally, Admiral Starslash expects that the young scions would have a chance to make political alliances through marriage and friendships gained with elves from the other spheres.

The E.I.N. outpost in Kaleaspace lies at the far edge of known space. It is a small, isolated station which has only recently been established with the discovery of a tree of life growing on the moon Egneivis. Determined to bring the Starflower Mothertrees under Avalonian protection, the E.I.N dispatched the aging Monarch Armada, Unrelenting Arrow, along with a pair of Porpises to establish the outpost. Barely a decade old, the outpost has made contact with the elven nation, The Empire of Greater Tanzia, on the planet Danranerth. The Tanzians have been reluctant to acknowledge the hegemony of the greater Elven Empire in space, however, they have not denied their people the right to join the Elven Imperial Navy. A small number of younger noble sons and daughters have joined the EIN.

Given that these youths do not have the inherent knowledge of the starfaring Elven Empire than those raised in the better-known systems, Admiral Starslash has established a Naval Academy at Egneivis. Here, midshipmen spend three years in intensive study, then, having reached the age of majority, they spend their first year of Naval service aboard a training vessel, with a Captain, Executive Officer, Bosun, Chief Pilot and 3 senior Chiefs. The midshipmen form the rest of the crew and learn by doing.

Non-nobles can enlist. They attend an intensive bootcamp, followed up by specialty schools, before being assigned to a ship and gaining real world experience.

In either case, given the long mandatory service times, many families have been moving to Engeivis in order to stay close to their relatives. A good sized town has begun to spring up amongst the branches of the tree, its population servicing the Navy as such base towns always do.
