The Study of Magic

"In my travels to Jekland Island, I always wish for clear nights so I can see the Streams light up the night. As a child growing up in Caserbach, I always wondered what those lights in the sky were. Now, as an Arcanologist, I know that those lights are high concentrations of magic energy in the atmosphere. So concentrated that they give off a blue light that can be seen during the night. I have devoted my life to mapping the Streams and trying to figure out where they come from. Sadly all my evidence points to the Unknown Country. I could have forsaken Imperial Order 47 and gone to investigate anyway, but I knew better. I saw the reports that came from that desolate place; I'd be dead before I got off the boat. All streams have a source, and I have a really good idea of where the magic streams come from."

Utility

Arcanology was founded as a pursuit of understanding magic and all of its qualities and applications. Most of these applications and studies are encouraged by the Academy, but there are some theoretical uses of magic that are forbidden.
One such theory is that magic could be used to open a portal into another world or The Void, the space between worlds. The study is forbidden because of the failed attempts by top Arcanologists who suffered greatly for their failures.

Access & Availability

Arcanology is not taught anywhere except at The Chaotic Academy where young Chaotics are taught how to use their gifts. It is felt by the scholars at the Academy that non-Chaotics have little use for the science of Arcanology.

Complexity

Arcanology as a study is not difficult to comprehend. The theories of Arcanology mostly deal with the flow of magic through the world of Kalder. Applied Arcanology is where things become difficult, but it is also where Chaotics and normal humans can work together to create amazing technology. Many devices in the Heartland Empire that use magic were developed by a pair of inventors, usually an Arcanologist and an engineer.

Discovery

Arcanology is the study of magic and its applications in society. It has three branches of study: Combat, Telekinetics, and Medicinal.
Combat focuses on the condensing of magic into projectiles that can be used as weapons. This study was mandated by His Imperial Majesty.
Telekinetics focuses on manipulating magic energy around objects to move them. This study is used mainly by Industrial Chaotics who work as factory workers.
Medicinal focuses on the use of high concentrations of magic energy to cauterize wounds or magic manipulation to fight diseases.
