The Great Drake Humi War Military Conflict in Kald | World Anvil

The Great Drake Humi War

The bloodiest war the world had ever known, great is an understatement.Lasting 637 years, six human lifetimes and three of drake, casualties exceeded the millions. The war has lasted longer than it has ended, so memories might not soon be forgotten.

Lead Up

The signs of war were written all across the land, an inevitability. As the species of Kald evolved around one another, intelligence took hold of some. The foremost of which were the Drake and Humi who’d have several thousand years each to proceed to the idea of a sophont*. Drake evolved in the southern central region where land was open and temperatures rose. To the north, the Humi inhabited caves later to be revealed as buildings in a more frigid environment. With lands so vast, it took many centuries for the two to meet. In the center of the world, the two greeted with acceptance turned violence.

To the humi, they found vicious creatures of malice. They’d dealt with carnivores in their lands, many hunted to extinction, yet had they met one that could match them in wit. And, try as they might, instilling within them specialized mentalities, did they only keep them away from their homeland.

To the drake, they found violent savages of worth. They little monsters hunted them, killed entire nests while stomping on their eggs to prevent spread. They had to be quelled. But, they were found to be lacking in strength, a leadership role snatched by talons and they instilled servitude. So then, when monarchies of northern congele and became the Valth Dynasty, so too did harems not agreeing unify in strategic Dmgia Empire.

At the borders did their fates become cealed, enemies of such knowledgeable might become at last within devastating battle.

Declaration of War

637 RU, the war began with the dynasty being forced into war by the machinations of Ghm Salhiñ. Enslavement and gross mistreatment of life enraged Humi’s family ascendancy, to which she thrust her competitors at the top into sure death.

Both instigators were not total rulers of all lands, but the mightiest and certainly most full. Their own internal opponents too did bring more into the gory fold. Not was the conflict a memory of two super-governments, but would instead be remembered as a war of species. For within its devastation to the world did so much of them seep into the soil.

Blood for Blood

It began with a rupture, borders confusing until pulled into a line by the most violent wrenches. But, so many lost, it must take time to recoup. Thus began a seemingly endless ebb of flow from fires to fright; it came down in blood spilt, only to wait for the next snapping point to begin. In the time of waiting, they were able to rebuild. Advance. Deliberate.

Weapons sophisticated and so did the people. Flames spewed in crystalline forms and spears hurled that shattered sound became far-ranged artillery and catastrophic remote golems. And so too did the war stretch and swallow neighbors. Other intelligent species, as the world became smaller, were positioned to take sides. Of the empire, Muzoval became an ally in more ready numbers. Of the dynasty, it was skyloft Tsohtsi that would first come to aid their neighbors. Others did not as divisively pick or distantly support. And, to keep in mind, these territories were predominant with the prevailing intelligence, not every people supported one specific nor any at all. For in a world where others exist, conflict will touch all.

Modern forms of combat were perfected within the war. Skirmishes and battles did not bcome any less bloody, in fact becoming more and more deadly where less and less people bore direct witness to atrocities. And as the battles took more lives, the interstitial plotting grew long and complex. A city could be wiped out in a matter of minutes from one large implosion and there would be a retaliation of covertly masacurring many. Both sides would rebuild, growing larger and less stable. They took more land, not just of their opposition, but of their reluctant neigbors to fuel their efforts. The strain on the world’s resources could not be sustained.

So, within bunkers, within the walls of civilians homes, murmurs of peace began. They were quickly cquelled by bombardment from propaganda, but the sorrow of families lost forever could not be suppressed. Riots and revolutions began to spring up on the fringes, infections slowly killing the killer beasts. Leaders of both, their lives drenched in generatijons of blood, had the future sight to see their time had come. Still, they thought maybe to end the other once and for all in a singluar contest. They would launch an all-out assult along the border, whoever obtained the resources in the Aldr K-kep would surely control the world. It did bring an end to the war, but not in a way either had expected.

Forceful End

Year 0 of the current calendar, the war came to an end. Events which may forever be regaled through The Elder's Journal lead to the unification between the final Valth Efoth and Queen La. Through this, the merging became set in the writing of the Lovunal R Rela. And, to fissure the two or to connect the two, a new set of nations, a continent or Ezaldiv dubbed Kexist had been established.

Though the new year of a new era had been set and the war concluded by both major parties, the fighting did not stop. Killings and continued wars from the now shattered super-governments last even to today, much of the western previously front still in turmoil. Still, there has been peace, if the rapid prospering of the fledgling ezaldiv is any notifier. In fact, the rapid dominance of two previous enemies led the world into a new-age of social evolution.

The northern dynasty, now the Ezaldiv of Sornata, and the southern empire, Ezaldiv hasehak, have yet to re-unify, their petty internal squabbles combined with the economic tyranny of Kexist keep them manageable. In the process, the other Ezaldivs who had refused to be at war entered the world’s stage.

Lasting Hatred

The nation of Kexist, ruled by all self-proclaimed intelligences, had been a successful creation of the Elder Gheforis; they instantiated a permanent buffer fissure; it formed in the changing and disputed border. Cooptly and equally lived by drake, humi, and all other Rela, within the nations still seethed the lingering animosity. Polished to the outside and to themselves, there has not been one political ascension that did not harm some group purposefully.

Previous nobility found themselves in two futures. The first was a continued rularship, ancestral roalty becoming elected officials. The second was a life of poverty as their ubrginging did not ready them for the kinds of hardships their people lived day to day, spiraling them down into further poverty. And, with a small vaccuum, new families from all walks of life took the stage of leadership. These leaders tended to be more equitable in laws, fighting against systemic hatred perpetuated by lingering royal lines. Then, externals came into power, not humi nor drake, not tsohtsi nor muzoval, but creatures like Roqbherg or Isynx whos families had no stake in the conflict, directly.

Another consequence, a decree by the victors, was a mass exodus of humi from the south. They were welcomed within Kexist firstly, but many traveled further north to the lands of their therein and ancestors. This meant they left their homes they’d created generation roots in. They could not wholly assimilate to their new lands, a piece of them forever severed. This also meant the sudden economic revolution of many drake-ruled nations. Nations that relied on slavery now had a lack of work-force which they could not so quickly replenish. Fat family members that could laze and do nothing were sent to the fields they weren’t accustomed to.

This was for a short time for they found a new work force, currency. They had created loans to hire, the idea of money becoming lost in a market no one being could fully understand. They also lead the revolution of automaton, purchasing information on how to create golems. Then, mass production started and greed wrapted it’s tight fingers around their necks.

Change had come, for better and for worse. Nations broke and borders were haphazardly drawn. While the world sighed relief at the ending of loss, problems are eternal. An animosity between species melted into a hatred of peoples. Maybe, with time, conflict can be curtailed, keeping the beast of war on a leash or in a cage, unable to harm like it once did.

This is a great, extensive and convoluted history much enriched with the sublinks. Great work!

This conflict clearly has similarities with historical American civil conflicts, especially with one race figuing itself supreme and the north south divide. Any plans on expanding this metaphor?

While unintentional, it’s definitely an analogy. Of course there are plans to expand the article itself, and probably some similarities between modern America and modern Kexist, with how the conflict and conclusion leaves ripples and waves. One problem I'll have to overcome is proper representation of how humans are all the same, but dragons and humi are different species. It would be dishonest to depict it one-for-one, so that will be a challenge in the future.
