City of Graves

Deep within the Akazi Desert explorers have recently found, what they refer to now as, the City of Graves. From what they uncovered under the sand, researchers have concluded it is a multi-layer structure filled with old sarcophagi.

Expeditions

Researchers were notified of a building underneath the sand after a nomad tribe, the Taiyo Tribe, had seen it on their track and told it to one of the High Archivist. Since the structure was in the middle of the desert, it took serious effort for the first, and following, expeditions to get all necessary equipment and provisions to arrive at the place. The middle of the desert was known for it's unpredictable weather such as heavy wind, causing harsh sand storms, and the vast differences in temperature between day and night. Besides difficulties with weather, getting enough provisions to the City is difficult, summoned food can only subsit for so long, before someone needs fresh food again and bringing a lot of food attracts different types of creatures that call the desert their home.
At this moment only the first layer is fully uncovered, it took over twenty years to clear out all the sand and debris that was found there. Currently there are various research groups rotating as they further uncover the next layers.

Architecture

There is currently not much that is discovered from the City of Graves. Most of the structure was reclaimed by the desert, buried underneath thick layers of sand. Only the top layer has been uncovered after a couple of heavy sand storms. The structure is made of sandstone, making it blend into the desert easily. By the shape and placement, researchers think it has been carved out of a big rock instead of build from scratch. The harch weather has removed most of the details that were assumed to be present, both on the outside as in the first layer.

Original purpose

It is not sure what the City of Gaves was used for after it was build, other than housing the death. Researchers are sure that is has been a ruin ever since the Shattering, making it difficult to verify the original purpose. The first layer doesn't give many indications other than housing basic sarcophagi without any remains or personal items. The walls are without any writing or drawing to indicate a purpose, it is unknown if there was anything on the walls at some point or if they were blank from the beginning. Researchers hope that there will be more to note as they uncover more of the structure.
