Mutica Empire

Youngest of the fallen civilizations, conquered most of the northern hemisphere thanks to the campaign of Empress Kafío The Conqueror whose campaign was stopped short when she sailed south with an armada and were lost at sea.

History

Rise of Empress Kafío

Empress Kafío fifth of her name inherited her throne as an 8-year-old child when both her father the emperor and his wife fell ill to a plague that swept through the empire and died. Too young still to rule, her bastard older brother Dakú—the only one of Kafío’s siblings who survived the plague—became her regent, and ruled on her behalf.   At 17 years old Dakú was a talented warrior, but most importantly he was a fiercely clever young man. As soon as he was granted regency Dakú began combating the sickness that plagued the empire. He seized the fortunes of the nobles and common people alike whose whole families had been wiped out by the sickness and used the money to build guilds and gather together the greatest minds in the empire. After three years of research Dakú’s guilds had devised a health plan to combat the sickness which Dakú spared no expense to immediately implement, and within a year the sickness was beaten back and expected to be eradicated within the next five years. Making Dakú wildly popular in the empire.   Surprisingly, Dakú did not attempt to usurp the throne from his young sister Kafío. Instead, he spent the next year restructuring the internal organization of the empire and at 23 years of age Dakú took over Kafío’s education. The 13 years old Kafío was still too young to attend many of the sacred ceremonies the empire held in honor to their gods, but Dakú insisted on taking Kafío anyways. He worked to strengthen Kafío’s prestige in the empire, delegating more and more of his duties as regent to her.   Though the minimum age to ascend to the throne is 16 years of age, Kafío did not ascend until she was 18 years old. And when she did she legitimized her older brother as true born and knighted him as Paladin of Jiak—Titan deity of guardianship and protection—the highest honor that could be given in the empire. Though whether Dakú was an actual paladin or if it had simply been an honorary title remains a mystery to historians.   For the rest of her life, Dakú remained Kafío’s closest and most trusted advisor.   Though the Empress loved her brother dearly, Kafío set out to consolidate power on her own instead of remaining on her brother’s shadow. She left Dakú in charge of the day to day minutia of running their empire and started expanding the Mutica Empire. Empress Kafío displayed remarkable military brilliance and tactical innovation, and under her command, the Mutica Empire expanded to cover the entire northern hemisphere. After which she was renamed from Empress Kafío the fifth to Empress Kafio The Conqueror chosen of Ignurra and Iborra, twin gods of war.   Furthermore, as a consequence of leaving Dakú in charge of the empire while she was campaigning, the Mutica Empire experienced the greatest golden age in its history under his guidance.   The Empire prospered for many years until Empress Kafío, age 38, set out to the sea of Maxurruy south of the capital along with the armada of Mutica with the goal of conquering the southern part of the eastern continent and never returned.   A year after her disappearance Kafío’s eldest child, Empress Deogo ascended the throne at age 17. And though Empress Deogo attempted to persuade her uncle to stay as her advisor as he had for her mother, Dakú was too grief-stricken and retired from his post. Thus marking the beginning of the end of Mutica’s golden age.

Emperor Minuez

Ascended the throne at age 22, Emperor Mineuz third of his name and great-grandson of Empress Kafío. Emperor Mineuz was determined to reclaim the glory and golden age of his great grandmother and set out to the south continent to do what his great grandmother could not.   Emperor Mineuz avoided the sea of Maxurruy and instead sailed south through the Gulf of Xideogo and successfully conquered the northern coast of the southern continent. He personally founded the city of Puerza, which grew to a veritable metropolis and center of arcane research. And launched several expeditions to the eastern continent in preparation for an invasion that would never happen.   However Emperor Mineuz was not as military astute as Empress Kafío nor as adept at empire administration as Knight Paladin Dakú, and though historians argue that he brought about a silver age to the empire as prosperous as it was under his grandmother, Empress Deogo, Emperor Mineuz lived his whole life chasing the shadows of his ancestors.

Fall of Emperor Dukék

Having taken the throne at the age of 36, Emperor Dukék was a weak and untalented emperor, unpopular and unofficially known as Emperor Dukék The Inept. Duchess Ozudondro a powerful noble from the riverlands south of the capital who could trace her lineage back to the second born of Empress Kafío declared him unfit to rule and declared herself the true Empress, renaming herself Kazío after her ancestor.   Though the emperor himself was wildly unpopular and ridiculed by his court, his empress-consort and 10-year-old son Oxania were respected and beloved respectively. Empress-Consort Cormun gathered support for her husband in exchange of a promise that Emperor Dukék would abdicate the throne as soon as Oxania was of age.   Loyalist nobles rallied around the Empress-Consort and her 10-year-old son, and Empress-Consort Cormun led her loyalist allies to war against Duchess Kazío and her dissenters. Both women matched each other in wit and military might, and the civil war dragged on in bloody stalemate for years.   It was during this upheaval as the imperial forces were tied up with Kazío’s insurrection that several duchies of the empire rose in arms against the capital and each other in what would later be known The War of the Rebel Kings. As rulers of various duchies declared themselves independent kingdoms and began land skirmishes with each other.   Historians believe that loyalists and dissenter armies faced off in a final battle at Pica ju Nolla. And that while no one knows exactly what occurred during the battle, it is indisputable that a prismatic dragon descended on the capital and the northern isles, including Pica ju Nolla. Obliterating both armies and the capital.

In reality Duchess Kazío summoned a dracolich during the battle of Pica ju Nolla, obliterating two thirds of the loyalist forces before they were able to retreat to the capital.   Cornered and aware that the capital would not hold against Kazío’s armies and her dracolich, Empress-Consort Cormun and the imperial court magicians gathered to summon and bind a prismatic dragon to harness its power against Kazío and the rebel kings. However, despite their precautions, they underestimated the power of a prismatic dragon and were unable to control it. The freed dragon then destroyed the capital, Kazío’s forces that had been en route to take the capital including Kazío's dracolich, as well as several of the duchies near the capital, before retreating to hibernate in Pica ju Nolla.   With neither a capital nor an army to hold it together, nor any surviving direct royal members to inherit the throne, the empire collapsed soon after that.
