Crimson Clubroot

"... a reddish-brown plant of incomparable elasticity that I had become familiar with. Not even remotely edible, with a tangle of fine roots so thick that harvesting other plants around them brought risk of contamination, they at first were warily observed and sometimes despised for their inconvenient appearances. The locals did come to appreciate them, however, when talk of war tactics emerged..."
-Unknown, est. date 1298 PI
  • Sturdy.
The plants are fibrous and tough, able to withstand most typical foraging tools. Requires a unique serrated knife and a lot of patience to cut through and harvest. It is not recommended, however, as its sap has been known to also contaminate the surrounding flora and render them equally as inedible.
  • Highly elastic.
Their remarkable elasticity makes them ideal for usage in ropes and cables. They can be chemically treated into a substance akin to rubber if dried properly, but improper treatment methods create a mock substance that can cause health issues.
  • Fatally poisonous to most races.
The Falen, initially starting as grazing species, retain an almost perfect immunity to the poisons due to their incredible digestive power, but can still feel adverse effects (such as indigestion, vomiting and diarrhea in the worst casts). Other races that intake the sap are at risk for a slow, painful death of stomach cramping and hemorrhaging. Even small amounts of the sap are potentially lethal.
  • Culturally significant to the Falen.
During wars and civil disputes in their earlier history, the plant's sap was frequently used as a way to incapacitate foes in a way that would make them difficult to take care of, also chancing making their allies sick by proxy. They were banned from warfare after extensive usage, but that never brought their utilization to an end.
A phrase was coined to refer to cowardly people in reference to the plant, which translates roughly as "Those with the root in mind", which has since been shortened to "rooted mind".

Appearance

A single-stemmed plant, with pointy leaves coming off its sides in a way reminiscent of arrow heads. The coloration is a reddish-brown, with a dark green at the two leaves of the base of the plant.   The roots of the plant are delicate and very fine, identical to that of normal grass, but forming a chaotic and dense lattice that entangles itself with every nearby root in a radius of two or three feet.
