32 Cyclobub

Name: Cyclobub   Descendant of: Spibub   Description: For the ancestral spibub, only a few could reach the central gyre relatively intact, there weather conditions would be calmer but temperatures and freshwater rainfall much higher than the plants could cope with, diluting the surface layer of sea slightly. When not raining, scorching sun burnt the plants so that they could no longer photosynthesize or even metabolize.   What results is a plant that can withstand salinity fluctuations, high temperatures, and is more resistant to the sun. Can lower it's buoyancy and temporarily sink to use the water itself as shelter, can tan over the course of a day, can encapsulate and hide it's chloroplast in dark pigmented capsule organelles when it has stored enough starch for the day, keeping them intact but dormant.   Because much growth and propagation occurs locally, much of a raft is siblings or even a single organism that has grown big. They intentionally sever parts of themselves that rot, but more than that if they are small and a rotting part of a larger raft, they will sever themselves, release their gas reserves and commit suicide by sinking into the depths of the ocean. Because the siblings they saved share those same altruism genes the trait gets passed on even though the one carrying out the action dies.   Reproduction: It reproduces by growth and fragmentation (clones) but will occasionally produce asexual spores from the very outmost edges of their cloudy and ribbony foliage.   Food: Photosynthesis   Ocean Locations: 6 (Epipelagic-Abyssopelagic Column) Land Locations: None

Biological Cycle

Cyclobub's colours adapt to the day and night light levels. It can photosynthesize at night by planet, moon and starlight but at a much reduced rate, in a metabolically slowed state.   Day:
