Description: It starts out like a flat felt mat but thin sheets begin to extrude outwards as it grows held together by spongy vein tissue arranged in a net, giving it a leafy appearance. Spores form on the surface of these ribbons.
The spongy vein tissue is solid with cells which are themselves hollow channels.
It prefers bright sunlight and shallow warm clear flowing water conditions. It can survive some exposure to open air but goes flat and limp in open air like seaweed.
Reproduction: It reproduces by growth and fragmentation (clones) but will ocasionally produce asexual spores.
