13 Spordry
Name: Spordry
Descendant of: Molfuzz
Description: A mold-like organism that decomposes dead unicellular and multicellular soft plants building up on the shorelines and on land with frequent rainfall. They contribute to the furthering of bioavailabiloity of nutrients in the newly and recently forming terrestrial organic soils.
The fruiting bodies are larger and more robust than that of the ancestors and sprout exposed to the open air during dry conditions. The fruits and spores are hydrophobic in case of rain. Being hit by a rain droplet will cause a cloud of spore to burst out into the air. Alcove-like protrustions help keep developing spores dry.
At a glancing observation they look like a thin carpet of many tiny stalks poking out of the ground and plant detritus, each between a centimetre or three tall. When disturbed they appear to "smoke" with spores.
Reproduction: Fruiting bodies cast off spores to the sea or wind which can often be asexual but may sometimes be sexually differentiated. Hemephrodites have male fruits and female fruits growing from the same mycellium. Males are of greater quanitity and smaller size than female gametes. Fertilization occurs through chance contact. Spreading of mycellia also aids in reproduction as it can fragment into new individuals.
Food: Dead soft plants after initial bacterial softening and release of nutrients
