The Liberators amass as many of their allies as possible, and are joined by Elven soldiers of the Scornubel Dale Watch, who defied orders to join the party.
A colossal battle rages outside the walls, as The Liberators breach the defences and enter the city, finally defeating Enged.
The Conflict
Prelude
Endged Brico had grown the KotWR considerably, and Triel was well defended.
The Liberators had gathered multiple supporters. Sildar Hallwinter had succeeded in gathering the Allied Northern Lords, including Vane Ghast. Gilas Finlay had collected numerous naval men, who fought alongside pirates sent by Pirate Lord Elvir Endos. Eden Lotte had amassed a number of the Luskan Scabbards to also fight alongside the Liberators.
Ignoring direct orders from the Elves of the Dale, Jilreeth Heeth, commander of The Scornubel Dale Watch, marched his army to join the battle. He believes the Liberators to be correct, and that if Enged succeeded in conquering the North, he will turn his attention to the rest of the Dale.
The battle was fought outside the walls of Triel, with some brief skirmishes occurring within.
The Scornubel Elves begin with arrow fire as the Allied Northern Lords push on behind.
The Northern Flank of the ANL sweep through KotWR thanks to the military prowess of Vane Ghast's Ghast Raiders, supported by the sheer might of Gilas and a band of sailors and pirates following
However the KotWR shift their forces and begin to focus on the centre of the ANL army. They break through the front line of Scornubel Elves and massacre the Phandalin Villagers who had been stationed at the rear. The Villagers' pikes, pitchforks and clubs were no match for the KotWR. It was one of the most gruesome events many soldiers on both sides had witnessed.
With the KotWR focussed heavily on the centre, Sildar leads his horsebound troops through a gap and behind the line of KotWR. Sildar rides his horse back as the gap begins to close and beckons Owain to follow. Owain takes his time to consider, scanning the battlefield around him, wary of leaving his companions. Just as the KotWR begin to close the gap in their formation, Owain charges through on his horse, followed by a band of sailors and soldiers, desperate to follow a commander in to further battle and finish the fight.
Leoran and Arkwest are struggling to keep the KotWR at bay. Whilst the Emerald Enclaves magic had wreaked havoc early in the battle, many of them falter in close combat. As they see Owain charge through the frontline, they are encouraged by their friend Redioth, knowing full well that if they leave, the Emerald Enclave could perish entirely. They charge forward to follow Owain.
Shunt sees his friends advancing, and leads a band of the strongest Stonefists forward, tearing through the KotWR.
As the party regroup within the walls, they are shocked by the silence within, yet can still hear the terrible battle raging outside.
They move forward through the city's streets, but swiftly a soldier falls, an arrow in his neck. The party must dispatch a sniper before moving on.
Finally they reach the Castle.
As they storm in, they find the doors to Enged's office. Suddenly, a spell animates chains on the castle wall, suspending both Shunt and Arkwest.
Leoran and Owain burst through to Enged and decide they shall retrieve their friends later.
KotWR appear, in the office they battle Leoran and Owain, and in the corridor, Shunt and Arkwest.
Leoran is injured and Owain defeats the KotWR, making his way toward Enged. Outside, more KotWR appear, attempting to stop Arkwet and Shunt from reaching Enged.
Enged attempts to explain he has raised this colossal army to defeat an even larger threat. The party will not be swayed however. No matter Enged's motives, his crimes have been too great to ever forgive.
Owain and Enged do battle, Owain swinging his blade, Enged using magic and a small blade to attack. Enged connects to Owain's skin, and his poison enters the knight's blood.
Shunt and Arkwest finally make it into the office, to witness Owain bring his sword down upon Engeds head, splitting his skull in two. Not seconds after, Owain collapses to the floor, clutching his chest. He looks to his companions, and in a flash of light he seems to disappear, leaving only his ring of Nimarra where he once stood.
Enged is defeated and the KotWR scattered, much of the Liberator's allies also perish. Triel is freed.
Graz'zt rises in the Shuddering, beginning the abyssal occupation.
Historical Significance
The Liberator's, specifically their martyr, are remembered as heroes in most of the Sword Coast.
