The Beginning of the Beginning

Many fail to understand that the beginning of Jiwenia was not the beginning of it all. But few can generally grasp the topic of what rests beyond. In the beginning, in the true beginning, there were two great creators. On one side, there was the great Orain. A great and proud figure who sought to create the perfect world. Their dreams were small, but they shone brighter than any light ever could. On the other side resided the wise Charznos. They were quiet and detached, thoughtful, and kind.   The two, though different, existed with one another in perfect unity. Both realizing that one needed the other. There were times where their ideals clashed, and when they struck against one another, stars would form. When Orain grew heated with rage, meteors and asteroids rained down upon them. And when Charznos cried, comets would fly. Their discussions and debates slowly began to form the universe.   One day, Orain and Charznos grew furious with one another. Clashing against each other repeatedly until stars stopped forming, and something else did instead. Something new to their eyes. A sizeable rounded planet rested between them, and they soon came to call said planet Jiwenia. They marveled at what they created, but the creation wasn’t without consequence. Both were weak from their fight, and the hatred they currently felt for the other, caused them to separate for the first time. Unbeknownst to them, this separation created a sentient creature, weaker than them yet godlike in the minds of mortals. This separation caused chaos, and in this chaos, Darkness rose. In fear of the two enormous beings that he found himself surrounded by, he retreated to the planet below.   Remembering the connection they once had, and the need for them to be together, they joined once again. It didn’t take long for the two to discover the presence of the lesser being. His presence had brought with it an ever-present chaos that the two found they could not easily ignore. Realizing what they had unleashed, they sought to again restore complete and utter balance. But they alone could not do this, not with this new presence. They agreed to clash yet again, but this time they would do so without the trivial anger that their last clash held.   And so, they clashed. And from their clash came two figures that looked upon them in awe, and upon each other in love. One reminded Orain of themselves, and so they named him Sun. While Charznos could not help but see themselves in the other and called her Moon. The twins looked upon each other, and in their eyes, rested a love that only siblings could share.   Their parents told them of themselves and what their eternal task would be. They were like them, they held a balanced relationship, and one could not exist without the other. They pointed to Jiwenia and gifted them the world.   Sun and Moon descended upon Jiwenia, finding it cloaked in black. Darkness no longer was the only player upon the universal board. Sun, without care for Darkness, began to reshape Jiwenia to his likeness, pushing Darkness to only cover what Sun could not reach. An intentional child of the great creators, Sun’s powers exceeded Darkness’s in every possible way. With this new rival, Darkness’s power began to wither and weaken.   One day, Sun came to tranquil Moon, declaring that he was growing weary, and he would not be able to light the world each day with no end in sight. He asked his sister for help, for she held a particular kind of light within her grasp, the same as he. Moon accepted and allowed her light to touch all of Jiwenia when her brother could not. The two began to do an almost dance with one another, making sure the other always had enough energy for when they were to show next.   Darkness despised Sun, for Sun made it his mission to do what his maker asked of him, which was to expel the darkness from the world. Darkness wished to face him but found that he was weak when Sun was around, and so he stuck to hiding. But Darkness admired Moon greatly. Her soft glow allowed him freedom, and her beauty and soul were un-fleeting. He found himself creeping out of his hiding places to gaze upon her, always wishing to get closer but knowing that even though she was like him, she still carried the light within her. And so, he admired her from afar.   It was not until Moon came to Darkness when he was hiding that he was able to speak to her for the first time. With Sun, busy in the sky, Moon questioned him. The two made a compromise, Moon would allow him freedom as long as he promised not to ever cover the entire world. With their deal struck, the world once again fell into harmony. Orain and Charznos felt themselves grow stronger and looked upon Jiwenia with loving and proud eyes.   Though even they knew, harmony would only last for so long . . .
