Cimmerian Assassin Species in Jiwenia | World Anvil

Cimmerian Assassin

The Cimmerian Assassin race was a rare group that reached its peak during the Era of Divide and experienced a sharp decline in the Era of Blood. Many state that the assassins were a genetically flawed group of Cimmerians who were always destined to die out due to the circumstances surrounding their birth. Many geneticists and biologists believe that the genetically defective theories hold weight, and nature self-corrected itself by creating the Reaper race.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

There are four types of assassins known amongst the Cimmerian people. This included blood, shadow, puppet, and lust.

Blood Assassin

Blood Assassins were the rarest of assassins and the reason why many assume the specific race of Cimmerians were always destined to die out. Unlike all other assassins and Cimmerians, Blood Assassins were unable to shift into a shadow, the most common Cimmerian ability that the entire species is known for. Instead, Blood Assassins could touch another and cause massive internal and external hemorrhaging throughout the body. This ability could kill any save for other assassins, animals that had been raised and held taint, and later discovered, Reaper.   Due to these powers, unless the mother of the assassin was an assassin herself or they had a caregiver that was, they would die due to killing their mother and being unable to get the care a newborn baby required. Though, with concentration and self-mastery, a Blood Assassin can learn how to control their ability, slowing down the poisoning process or even stopping it entirely.

Lust Assassin

Lust Assassins were the second rarest of the assassin race and the first to die out. Despite their name, Lust Assassins could manipulate one’s emotions, not just pique another’s sexual desires and pleasures. They were able to sense another’s feelings and, with extreme focus, morph that emotion into another, play with the emotion, or cause the emotion to disappear. Under extreme duress, Lust Assassins could even kill a target by encumbering them with emotions. Because of this ability, many Lust Assassins never made it out of infancy as babies had little control over their abilities. Whereas Blood Assassins could survive if at least one of the parents were assassins, Lust Assassins did not share the same luxury. Their powers could be used against Cimmerians and assassins alike.   There have only been four known Lust Assassins, and they have all met untimely deaths. Either by their own hands or the hands of another. Many believe it would be possible for Lust Assassins to control their powers but none have ever succeeded.

Shadow Assassin

Shadow Assassins are the most common of the assassins, and the ones that garnered the most disrespect from other Cimmerians. This is due to the similarities between Shadow Assassins and the Elites. The only difference between the two is that a Shadow Assassin could turn into a shadow and manifest inside another, causing them to combust. Though this appeased some, many didn’t feel that the assassins deserved the same amount of respect that other assassins, such as Blood, deserved. Also, because they held no power that could kill their caregivers, many believe that Shadow Assassins didn’t go extinct like the other assassins. Instead, they simply became the Reapers. Though this is challenged as well since Reapers also have abilities that other assassins had.

Puppet Assassin

Puppet Assassins are similar to Shadow Assassins in that many believe that the race never truly went extinct, as much as the gene was mutated and helped to make the more stable race, Reapers.   These assassins possessed the ability to control another though it is unknown precisely what allowed them to control an individual. Some guess that it was bones, as whenever Puppet Assassins did begin to control a target, the victim's bones would usually start cracking and be the first things affected. Others believe that the individual was being controlled through their shadow, but this is probably untrue as Puppet Assassins are still able to control an individual even if their shadow is missing.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Assassins looked identical to their Cimmerian counterparts besides being an exception to the hair to skin color rule. This rule says that for lighter toned Cimmerians, they will have darker hair and darker-toned, lighter hair. Though not every Assassin went against this rule, a few did, making it an exception that Assassins could have darker skin with darker hair or lighter skin with lighter hair.

Civilization and Culture

History

The belief behind how assassins first came to be is that elite genes became mutated due to high levels of taint, leading to the assassin race. The assassin gene is recessive and hard to trace, even in full blood assassins. This means that two non-assassin Cimmerians could potentially give birth to an assassin, but at the same time, two assassins could possibly not give birth to an assassin.   The first known assassin was a Shadow Assassin, and debate about whether or not the assassin had just managed to master their Cimmerian abilities, was brought up. The discussion was soon squashed later, though when other assassins began to appear.   Despite being one of the strongest Cimmerian races at the time, assassins usually were used as spies and soldiers. The only Cimmerian Assassin who held a seat of power was Asher Dhunes, a Shadow Assassin.
