Arch Doyen

The Arch Doyen is the highest rank an individual of academia can reach. At the end of an era, a new one is named and replaces the last based on votes submitted by the rest of the Doyen. The Arch Doyen can come from any species and be any gender. Their primary responsibility is to usher in the new eras and chronicle the events of the last era. They are given the esteemed opportunity to name the next era as well as have a period in said era named after them. Other than that, they are also the highest academic individual of Jiwenia and oversee the many colleges and academies. They answer to no one, as nobility and academia are separate. This also means that though the Arch Doyen may be called upon, they have no real say in politics or anything that doesn't have to do with academia.

Requirements

To have one's name up for voting, they have to be a Doyen. For that to happen then they must past several ranks of the academic world until they are able to join the vast Doyen ranking. Though any species and gender can potentially become the Arch Doyen, many presume that the vote favors those of Kre background. This is typically because of a Kre's immortal life, while other species life will not allow them to see all two hundred years.
If an Arch Doyen dies, the Arch Doyen voted in next has the ability to be voted to keep the position as to allow them to name an era. This has only happened once and the individual was not voted to stay in the seat.

History

Both The Chronicler as well as the rank of Arch Doyen was created in 1 Harmony. Academics and scholars alike saw the need for a more uniform timeline and ability to name and title the different phases that events take place. For this, The Chronicler was created, a specific branch of the academic world whose job was to record history. At the same time, talk on how an Arch Doyen would be chosen began and an unanimous vote that the creator of the academy was to be the first. A Kren named Lathai'uin, became the first Arch Doyen and lived out the entire era, stepping down and allowing the next voted Arch Doyen to replace him.
Lathai'uin not only set the precedent for the role, but also gave the Arch Doyen the ability to have a stronger vote when it came to the switch in power. While every other vote counted as one, the Arch Doyen's vote counted for three.

Notable Holders

• Lathai'uin: Kren who was the first to hold the position. Only Arch Doyen to name three eras due to the past two eras that had happened as well as the current era.

• Anlithi: Kren who named Era of the Nomad. Though the name has not been changed, Anlithi faced tremendous backfire for the name from both the Doyen as well as those the name was targeted at.

• Selina Modugno: The first Alyrian to take on the rank, and who named the Era of the Veil. She did not live throughout the entire era.

• Yesane of the Silver Wings: The first Sairs to be voted into rank as well as the one who took up the job after Selina's death. She was not able to get enough votes to become Arch Doyen for the next era.

• Kailu'neia: Kreol who named the next era, the Era of the Cimmerian. Despite overwhelming pressure to give up her spot to a Cimmerian, she was able to keep it.

• Valiani Safaer: The first Cimmerian Arch Doyen. Despite being voted in, many believe that they got the position simply because of fear. Named the Era of the Tempest.
