The Crest of Darkness

Up north in a distant castle, a long time ago, a lone king sat upon his throne.

There is a prophecy, more of a myth really, about the Crest of Darkness , a vessel of Dark Magic . It is said that someday the Crest will be destroyed. The poor soul who would destroy the Crest, however, has an arduous journey ahead of them.

Summary

The Crest of Darkness will be sought after by many who desire power. Each new possessor will add to its pool of magic, making it both stronger and tougher on the soul. At the peak of its power, it will be held by someone who already has a lot of magic. This person will try to enslave the world, but another will rise to contest them. This hero will have to wrestle with the built-up dark magic. Some believe the dark magic will consume the hero. Some believe the dark magic will even kill them. The prophecy is unclear if the hero will be successful in the end.

This prophecy is one of many that are only sometimes told. As a result, not very many people know about it. There are some with High Magic , however, who know exactly what's going to happen, and to whom it will happen. As is the nature of these creatures, they do not freely share what they know.

Variations & Mutation

At the end of his life, King Lukian saw another version of his prophecy. In this version, he saw the triumphant end of the one who would destroy the Crest of Darkness. He died soon after, satisfied that this dark object would eventually meet its end.
