Yao

Spirits, existence blossoming into sentience if long lived enough, become yao.

Civilization and Culture

Common Taboos

It is taboo for yao to have relations with those outside of their own kind. History is littered with tales of forbidden loves between yao and humans, and rarely between yao and mo. Emissaries of Heaven, including those yao who have ascended, will come to divide the lovers.

History

As ancient as the world itself, yao are primarily the spirits of the living world, sentience gained through years and years of life. They come in all forms and from all walks of life - as tree spirits, as fox spirits, and even as jian or prayer beads, if enough concentrated qi is absorbed.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Yao often find themselves at conflict with humans, xian and mo alike.     Reviled by humanity, and viewed as little better than mo, they are hunted and demonised.     Xian often look down on yao though there are more than a few yao within their ranks. Until they ascend, they're considered little better humans. Some even consider them lower than humans.   Mo, as devils, are in opposition to all other living creatures.
