Fire Spirit

I knew a fire spirit once. She walked into town, flashed those amber eyes and that smirk, and I was butter.   She said she wanted to stay at the inn for free, needed a pint, and would like some stew. Everyone gasped. I've stabbed paying customers for less. But her? I could feel the heat coming off her from across the counter. Pulled up the pint, got her some stew, and said third room on the right. What else do you do?   When she was done, the crowd was thinning, she reminded me she was in the third room on the right with a wink and little hip wiggle. Women around here don't hip wiggle. Just about lost it.   Vaulted the counter, told everyone to get out, and ran upstairs to room three. What they say about fire spirits? It was true for her, anyway.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fire spirits are fire. They embody the physical flame, and while they can put on a human skin, they cannot shed all of their qualities. They are always a little warmer than their surroundings. In the cold, steam comes off their body. Their skin is bronzed or even a red color. Hair and eyes are orange, yellow, red, or some combination there of. Ancient spirits can gain other flame colors, such as white or blue.

Biological Traits

Elemental spirits have no real gender. When mimicking man's form, they usually pick a gender and stay with it, but it's relative. This leads to reproduction with men to be fluid, depending on if they want to carry the child or not.

Genetics and Reproduction

Fire spirits reproduce through two ways. The first way is shedding power. The second is exploding. This is the same for all elementals.   If a fire spirit becomes powerful enough, the energy built up can become too much, and so they shed some of it. A flame drops from their body and becomes a small spirit, often times little more than a will-o-wisp.   The other way is through violent destruction. Few spirits desire this form of reproduction, as it means their death. Their body bursts, though the energy doesn't die. Portions of the spirit's body becomes smaller flames, each one taking a portion of the power.   All spirits can reproduce with man.

Growth Rate & Stages

All fire spirits start out as a flicker. The flicker latches on to something in the area, sometimes a concept, and watches over it. If there is a lot of interaction with the item or concept they latched onto, they grow quickly into a small, but sentient flame. Fast growth would come from a fire pit in a traveling hub or lust in a brothel. Slower growth would come from a candle in an abandoned shack or innovation in slave quarters.   Once they are large enough to be sentient, their power comes from training. Soon they will be a human size, and can take on a shape. Usually the shape will be a reflection of how power comes to them, or the environment. The fire spirit in the brothel might become a shapely woman. Another formed in a military camp might become a flaming sword that floats.   At the pinnacle of power, they become dragons, or some sort of massive form. Dragons are the creations of legends, though, and many doubt that level of power is obtainable.

Ecology and Habitats

Fire spirits like to live where it's hot. This can be a desert, a forge, or a hearth. Passion counts. It could be an ecstatic inventor's home or a berserker's yurt.   For smaller areas, it will try to build upon what is there. Convince the villagers to create bigger and more hearths. Help the smithy purchase more forges. Help the berserker recruit more warriors.   Rainy and cold regions can be detrimental to fire spirits' health. It will diminish power, and possibly kill the lesser spirits.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Fire spirits have control over regions and concepts within the region. Those which have more reach over their concept are considered the superior of those with less influence. While this is not a definitive structure, it is held up with the fact that a fire elemental with more influence will naturally have more power, and can therefore keep the others in the region under foot.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

There are weapons, armors, and household items which have innate fire attributes. This includes flaming swords, lights which automatically illuminate without a fuel source, and blankets which emanate heat. Legends claim this was done by enchanters, elementalists with incredible mastery over fire magic. They could take the fire spirit and trap them within items, forcing them to give their power to the item. The power of the item mimics the power of the spirit bound, though most would consider it absolutely abhorrent to bind a sentient spirit.
