The Alliance of Forgotten Blades
Structure
The Alliance is an amorphous group of individuals with no ties outside of the organization. The members of the Blades are few, elite, and dedicated. Up until 31 ABA, the headquarters of the Forgotten Blades was in Ackra and while that is technically still their base of operations, political pressure, a cultural shift, and the deaths of the Blades' leadership has caused the Blades to move most of their operatives and resources to the desert of Akim'Dovear. As it stands the organization's extensive chain of command has allowed the Blades to remain a mostly cohesive entity despite the destruction of its headquarters, but since the end of the Trench Crisis the future of the Alliance of Forgotten Blades has become uncertain.
Culture
Secrecy is of the utmost importance in the Alliance of Forgotten Blades. The Blades are very careful in their recruitment and each of their members are required to fake their deaths or otherwise disappear and shed all ties outside of the organization when joining, including familial and political ones. The members of the Forgotten Blades join and remain in the organization until they are too old at which point they leave and start new lives far from their original lives. Few survive that long, however, and their dangerous job makes the members of the Blades both proud and zealous.
Public Agenda
While little about the Alliance of Forgotten Blades is public, they were created to perform two essential tasks:
1. Defend the Ackramorian Empire and all of her citizens against threats from beyond this world.
2. Do not allow anyone outside of the organization to become aware of impending extraplanar threats.
Assets
The Alliance of Forgotten Blades is in a desperate situation as their funding has been cut off. As a result the organization is quickly draining funds. The Forgotten Blades have unique Adamantine weapons and armor as well as elite wyvern riders. The true number of members is difficult to ascertain, but the Blades likely number less than 1000 as of 41 ABA.
History
The Alliance of Forgotten Blades was established by Ahlic Bannis in 428 BBA as a fail safe, in case Ahlic failed to prevent the Second Coming of the End Times. Their task was to defeat slaad incursions wherever they manifested and ensure that they remained outside of the public's awareness. The Blades were given a blank check by the then Emperor of the Ackramorian Empire Sivus Felix who ordered that the keep the matter quiet so as not to disturb the golden age of trade that he had fostered. After Ahlic's disappearance the incursions from The Trench slowed but did not stop, so neither did the Forgotten Blades. For 450 years, the Blades kept their war with chaos secret.
Things became more difficult as the Ackramorian Empire began to fracture around 100 BBA, but the Blades persevered. On the 23rd of Primusmensis, 31 ABA, at the height of discussions within the Forgotten Blades about the rise in slaad incursions and the Blades place in this new world, the Alliance of Forgotten Blades headquarters in Ackra was attacked by slaad. Without hesitation the entire headquarters was obliterated, along with some surrounding city blocks in order to both cover up the event and to prevent the infestation of the imperial capital. There were no survivors. This caused the Blades to become significantly more decentralized and the Ackramorian Empire to pull its support.
Since the destruction of the headquarters in 31 ABA and the creation of Horizonguard in 36 ABA the Forgotten Blades have moved the majority of their remaining operation to Akim'Dovear. While the Forgotten Blades haven't officially disbanded, the organization has fractured, had many casualties during the Trench Crisis, and has lost the patronage of the Ackramorian Empire. To say that the Alliance of Forgotten Blades is a shadow of its former self would not be inaccurate.
