Port Ventia

Demographics

Port Ventia is comprised of all sorts that blow in along the Long Sea. As a common trading hub during the age of the Old Ackramorian Empire, Port Ventia has a diverse population descended from immigrants and colonists. Port Venti's population is fairly wealthy due to the high volume of trade that flows through the city and work available as a result. Dock, service, brothel, and tavern workers all find plenty of work thanks to the high volume of traders and sailors that come through Port Ventia. The upper reaches of Ventian society is comprised of the Merchant Princes, ship and fleet captains, and other wealthy business owners.

Government

Port Ventia is the power center on the Isle of Drianus and home to the "Merchant Princes" who control all trade in and out of Drianen waters. The Merchant Princes also employ the town guard of Ventia, a privately funded mercenary outfit called the Grand Marines. The Merchant Princes claim to be beholden to the Drianen people, but there are no official checks on their authority.

Defences

Port Ventia and her surrounding waters are a "neutral zone" and policed by the Grand Marines accordingly. Pirates, raiders, and legitimate traders are all protected in Drianen waters so long as they have goods or funds to trade. This positive relationship with the pirates and raiders of Jeharr means that Port Ventia has few natural threats outside of the major sovereignties of Tukarsh to the east. The vast fortune available to Port Ventia to purchase the services of pirates, combined with the Grand Marines, and the financial disincentive of a negative relationship with the most important trade city east of Ackra means that Ventians have little to fear in terms of outside threats.

Assets

Port Ventia is a very wealthy settlement but it's also a haven for pirates, traders, raiders, anyone with money to buy things or valuables to offload. The Merchant Princes officially disavow the buying of stolen product and ill-gotten gains, but it is an open secret that in competing with one another they buy and sell anything and everything to make a profit, including people. Despite being a wealthy and tempting target for ne'er-do-wells, to develop a bad reputation with Port Ventia is generally a bad business decision as it is an important haven for pirates and raiders that can afford it.

Tourism

Port Ventia is famous, particularly among sailors, for gambling and whoring. Sailors bet and spend weeks of pay at a time paying for fancy drinks in taverns, prostitutes, and at gambling tables playing all manner of card, board, and dice games.
