The White Mantle
The White Mantle is an old cult that started roughly 400+ years ago. They are a demon cult, and in fact this is the first sign of demons in general in Ithil’Dant. Forgal doesn’t know who the original leader was, or how they came across whatever means they had to summon demons. All Forgal knows is that their goal is to bring demons to Ithil’Dant, serving some unknown being from the Abyss. From his time spent with Rytlock, Forgal is aware that there are two places fiends come from, the Hells and the Abyss. There are no details about the devils that come from the Hells, only that they are apparently hated by the demons, a natural enemy perhaps, but he isn’t sure they have ever appeared in Ithil’Dant for whatever reason. Something seems to be keeping Ithil’Dant in the blind spot of these beings, but these particular demons have found a way in.
Bloodstone is not something native to Ithil’Dant or to this plane in general. It’s something brought over from the Abyss that the Mantle learned to cultivate and regrow on their own. It acts more like a plant in that sense, instead of crystal or rock. Forgal isn’t sure what it’s true purpose is, but the cultist’s seemed obsessed with it, and were using it to strengthen their own magical or physical means. It is possible that they stopped the cult before they had a chance to use the bloodstone for its true purpose.
Forgal is aware that the leader of the White Mantle back when he and Rytlock dealt with them, was Lady of Shadows, Achillea. He is confident she is dead, Rytlock killed her with his help.
As far as Forgal was concerned, the cult was erased. The bloodstone mines were destroyed, and Rytlock fought his brother and killed his own mother. The cult should have been dead and STAYED dead. Forgal can emphasize that this shouldn't have happened. No one should have been able to bring this cult back.
Hint hint, they all thought Bangar was dead, but he got away.
DO NOT tell the party any more, but Forgal also knows that Achillea is a shadow elf, part of the winter court, and Rytlock’s mother. Achillea was striving to create a child of the gods to use to overthrow them. Rytlock is Ynadon’s son, and he has a half brother who’s father is Vraekor. Ynadon learned of the witch’s schemes and stole Rytlock from her at a young age, raising him himself in secret. Vraekor discovered his own son, Bangar, and has also been involved in his raising. The only reason Forgal knows any of this is because he is a demigod himself, and actually was raised alongside Rytlock like a brother. They confide in each other.
Here is something else Forgal won’t tell the party unless I say so. Forgal and Rytlock discovered that whatever this cult serves is an Abyssal Prince, and was in fact part of the Forgotten Pantheon. At some point these things were worshipped as gods, but somewhere during the creation of Ithil’Dant some 1000+ years ago, that information was lost and scattered. Some relics remain however, and this cult has a few.
Lord Cauticus and Lady Aurora, possible current leaders of Mantle?
WARNING, THE REST IS DETAILS THAT FORGAL DOES NOT KNOW.
The cult serves a being known as Zuggtmoy, the Queen of Fungus. The bloodstone is actually a fungal parasite, exploding on contact due to how unstable it is in this plane currently. Zuggtmoy is my rendition of Mordremoth. The more we deal with the white mantle, the more corrupted with fungus they will become. Zuggtmoy gained access to Ithil’Dant by accident, but her stay was allowed by Vraekor after his attention was brought to the cult through the birth of his son Bangar. He recognized her as part of the fallen pantheon, and his intent was to get her influence to spread so that she might once more reach godhood. He intends to make her his queen and overthrow the other gods. Achillea had been her avatar from before Rytlock and Bangar were born, just a mortal shell acting out a demons wishes because Zuggtmoy still couldn’t cross over to the material plane. The real Achillea was possessed during the first summoning attempt of Zuggtmoy, making herself the voice of Zuggtmoy.
