No fate guides me. No destiny compels me. I forge my own path.
Fateless is a condition that makes a person, object, or even place immune to the machinations of Fate. Although Fate isn't what it used to be after the End of All Things, with no gods remaining to enforce its dictates and play its games, it is still a potent force... A potent force now in the hand of mortal mages, able to bend and spin it to new and strange effects.
As Fate-altering magic has spread across Ithekshem, so have the Fateless begun to appear, like a body responding to disease. The Fateless appear either spontanously or through exposure to strong, fated forces, and are immune to any and all spells or effects that might try to empose a Fate on them. No destiny rules them or ever will, but neither will they enjoy its blessing. Spells like
Whims of Destiny fail to find purchase - worse, the Fateless often warp such effects just by being near, like a negative vortex that fray the carefully woven threads of Destiny. In battle, it can be enough for a single Fateless champion to shield their unit from such spells.
Fateless is still a rare condition, and no one has found any consistent way of becoming one. It is, in a way, at the whims of fate.
are they cursed with free will? :O
