Luni's Festival
Luni's Festival is a celebration that lasts between one and nine days depending on the culture of the celebrants. It celebrates the moon of Ithan - Luni. This festival is celebrated by most people in all of the six nations in Ithan, and it is common for non-essential workers to take some or the entirety of the festival off of work. The festival is of differing importance in the six nations, being seen as something just for fun in some areas and as a major religious festival in others.
Luni's Festival by Locale
In Granoia, Luni's Festival takes the form of a Carnival-like festival with parades and masks and a large feast. In Lusatia, Luni's Festival is a solemn religious event where gifts are given and feelings of love, community, and generosity are fostered.
In Granoia...
In the coastal nation of Granoia, Luni's festival is commonly celebrated by donning a mask and participating in an extravagant parade. This parade lasts for three days and is followed with a feast on the fourth and last day of celebration. The masks used in the parade tend to be brightly colored half-masks, although some people opt for full-masks or less vibrant colors. The feasts held after the parades feature many local dishes, but there is almost always a large animal roasting over an open flame. The festival takes place on the four days following the first new moon of the Living Season in Granoia.
In Lusatia...
In the nation of Lusatia, Luni's festival is celebrated as a religious festival and, as such, is a more solemn affair than in most countries. Despite its more solemn mood, the festival tends to be enjoyed - especially by children - thanks to the tradition of giving nine heartfelt gifts to those you care for over the course of the event. The festival takes place on the nine days following the first new moon of the Dying Season in Lusatia.
I love that the festival is different in different places. The bit about heartfelt gifts is particularly nice.
