High Reister Ernesto D'Aquila

Ernesto D'Aquila is a secondary character in "A Knight's Legacy", an original fantasy story by Aydan Nightshade. He is the High Reister of the Noue Reformationists. Ernesto is known to stay in a magically-induced invisible state when interacting with his followers and to use sound amplification magic to allow himself to be heard — or to intimidate those who dare to question him. He is the one who ordered the assassination of Edgar Lemaire, based on the symbol left charred into Edgar's skin — his personal "calling card".

Symbology Used by Ernesto

Ernesto is known to use symbology to convey non-verbal messages to his followers, his targets, and any law enforcement agents investigating his crimes. A personal favorite of his is the marigold, symbolic of pain and grief. He uses a brand of a marigold with thorns as his "calling card". The first of the victims this symbol was used on was Ernesto's own father — Lorenzo D'Aquila — after the man had gotten wind of his son's illegal activities and threatened to turn Ernesto in.

Ernesto is a vain and arrogant individual, yet he is cunning enough to lead an entire organization of rebels. He had evaded capture and escaped notice for over six years before his eventual arrest. Ernesto was given as fair a trial as could be obtained for him, and was found guilty of multiple counts of murder, assassination, bribery, coercion, and treason. He was set to be given the punishment of death by poison — as decided by the jury — on Quinq, 88 Dying Season 1323 AF. He was put to death at sunset on that day. Three escape attempts were foiled before his execution.
